Default Low Fuel Light

Just saw the low fuel light for the first time last night. At the time it indicated 50 miles remaining. Filled up this morning after driving about five more miles and the pump shut off at 10.7 gallons. I resisted trying to squeeze in more. That would mean there's about 2.5 gal. in there when you see the light. Does this jive with what the rest of you have seen?

Like Don67 mentioned over on the sedan forum: The indicator gives you plenty of advance warning...reminding you to refuel before your next birthday.

On some isolated roads we have road signs saying the next gas station is 150 km away... I believe if the fuel light does not show up when you're passing that sign you're fine

Years ago my dad had an Olds and it's low fuel warning light came on about, oh, 30 seconds before it stalled. Personally I'd rather have the extra notice. I drove my Accent for half an hour with the low fuel light on while looking for a Shell station and got just under 10 gallons into the 11.9 gallon tank.

And when the car dies from running out of gas there is no warning. No spit splat. It was just like someone shut the car off.

GM vehicles, especially in the 90's had horribly inaccurate fuel gauges. My parents ran out twice. Once in their 90 lumina apv and again later on in their 96 lumina apv. Both times the fuel gauge was at the 1/8th mark or higher. No low fuel light. I've owned several GM vehicles back in the day and never took a chance. Heard of many other cases as well.

My civic was much more predictable. Fuel gauge was accurate and flow fuel light gave a decent amount of warning.

Best ever; had the low fuel light on in my the civic one day and the car began to sputter. Literally coasted up to the pump as it finally stalled! Like a boss. Wife wasn't too impressed though...lol.

My low fuel light flips on as soon as the gauge goes down to 1 bar remaining.

My dad once ran out of gas one morning in the driveway. You have NEVER heard such swearing.

His favorite saying when we were out driving was; "Plenty of gas..."

I'm pretty sure my low fuel light came on with two bars showing on the guage. I'll try to be more observant next time.
