Default SRS Light

Hello Everyone,

I picked up a black GLS Elantra GT and the SRS light (on the dashboard, not the passenger off light) has been turning on in the middle of my commute with regularity (just the driver, no passengers). We asked our salesperson and he says that it is normal and happens in his car. I read the manual and from what my understanding of it, that it is not normal. I've booked a warranty appointment anyways just to make sure. Does this happen in your GTs or am I paranoid?

Thanks

Its not normal on any car. This is the point where you make friends with service, salesman typically knows jack squat. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks guys! Aside from that and the very strong new car smell, I'm very much enjoying the new GT.

LOL. I have had my car for two week now and it still smells like new leather. Congrats on the new car!

SRS and ABS can mean starting system in some cars. Don't worry too much, likely a loose connection. My engine light came on the day after I bought my car, turned out it was a loose vacuum line.

Like "Check Engine" lights, something is failing a self-test. The number of internal checks these systems now run is astounding. Probably not a big deal, but it should be fixed and there is probably a trouble code stored in the computer that will let the dealer do a quick diagnostic.

Thanks for all the welcoming messages. Just got it checked at the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong with it and just reset the system. I'll see how it goes for the next couple of weeks.

Same here. Had abour 200 miles and the airbag light would come on/off (about 5 times overall). Dealership said a fault did show up so they "reset" the system. 400 miles later, no problem...yet
