Hi all. I have been lurking for a while and decided to say hi. Looks like a good club and nice to see so many Cdn's around.

I put my winter rubber and rims on the other day. Got them from Tire Rack (shipping killed me to Nova Scotia), but got a great price on tires and rims so it offset it.

Tires: Michelin X-ice Xi2, 195/65/15
Rims: 15x6.5 Sport Edition A7 Silver

They came with a full set of lugs and chrome valve caps (saved for the summer rims). The GT looks like a 4x4 but so far the tires have been very quiet onm the highway. I have these on my Ford Edge and they are unstoppable in snow.

Bring on the snow! Cheers! Kris

Very nice Kris! I think some of the Americans will be jealous of your grill.

Anyone found out what is the stock offset of the 16" wheels ? I'm looking forward to buying new wheels for next summer.

Do believe its an 45mm offset. Check TireRack.com, they've got all the specs ln their site.

I can search for wheels and get a list of +42, +45, +48mm wheels but that doesn't give me the actual stock offset.

The difference in those three figures is 1/4" so I wouldn't lose sleep over that.

I bought a set of used 2008 Tucson wheels, 16x6.5. The offset is +41. Now I'm still trying to find what is the stock offset for the Elantra GT. No luck yet. I know a couple of mm is not visually apparent, but I've read that even 5-10mm will make a difference in steering and bearing load. Someone in Europe reported that his stock wheels for the i30 are +50. So that would be a 9mm difference.
Anybody?

+50 is correct for OEM offset (16" steelies)

+45 is flush to the fenders with an 8" wide rim.

Does it make sense? Lower offset means the wheel sticks out more. If your 8" rim is flush with +45, it means the OEM needs +26 to be flush?
I'm not worried about esthetics, but the center of the wheel must not be too way out of specs, as it may affect suspension load, bearing load, steering effort...
