![]() For others considering this, do your homework. Here's what correct retrofit cost looks like for an Elantra: Elantra Hyundai 2011 2012 2013 Headlight R L Projection HID Ballast | eBay Also, the Euro i30 doesn't list HIDs as an option, but standard projection headlights like we get in the US. Hyundai i30 | New cars | Hyundai UK Modern lighting is moving away from HIDs anyway. Most of the high end Euro manufacturers have already moved to LED (Audi A6, A8, BMW 6 series) and BMW is currently experimenting with diffused laser lighting. BMW Develops Laser Headlight Technology

"If you want a Hyundai i30 with the lot, the Premium trim adds front seats with heating, panoramic sunroof, electronic park brake, auto-dimming rear view mirror, xenon headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels (rather than 16s), and an electrically adjustable driver’s seat." - quoted from a review of the i30 by caradvice.com.au. Note "xenon", aka HID.
And that link you posted to eBay, are the Elantra GT's headlights btw. The only difference is the global market clear reflectors, instead of NA market amber reflectors... |

Again sir, you are quoting AMERICAN law. Look where I live. See that it says CANADA? Oh yes that's right, our laws are different. We don't have, nor do we need washers and levelers on our cars here that have HIDs. That is EUROPEAN laws. Again, not CANADA. If you want to try and prove me wrong, make sure you're using the right information to back yourself up with, before you try to make yourself look like a keyboard hero. By the way, the law that you have quoted, doesn't make a distinction between projector and non-projector. In most of Europe and Canada there is a distinction. If you're going to run a Xenon system it HAS to be from a projector housing. This has already been dealt with from the factory. It's no different than adding Xenon to an Elantra Touring, a Genesis coupe, a Tiburon, or any other car with a halogen projector. The projector is what makes it legal.
I've been in the game for a long time, I do know what I'm talking about. So Mr BMW-man, you can go back to trying to tell other people what to do now. When you know my province's modification laws, then you can try and rebut. |

I bother because a 4300-6000K HID bulb cast a clearer light, allowing you to see farther up the road, and wider across the road and ditches. It's not to look cool. If I wanted that, I'd have bought a Veloster lol. And you don't have to break the seal on the dust cap. The kits have grommets on them, so that you can drill a hole into the cover, and fit the grommet, keeping it sealed. In the 3 years, and 2 cars i've run HIDs on, there's never been a failure. Again, if you buy a quality kit (the ones I buy are around $100 a set), you won't run into issues. I'd never suggest anyone buy a kit that costs less than $100, as you're asking for cheap build quality and poor reliability...

I put WHITE H9 bulbs and I put them because they are brighter than H11, they have 10W more power. Many people do it. Wondered why your ad states: Off-road use only? Not only the blue coating will reduce your light output, you can be fined heavily for putting them in, just like you should be fined for putting red, green, pink, whatever color. Guys, no need for a pissing contest. I just drank a 2 liter of Mt. Dew so I'll win there
![]() CanuckGT, I think we have all been blinded by that idiot kid driving a 90's civic with 100k HID's pointed upwards. Some people are more impacted by this than others. To me, it just pisses me off. My wife quite literally gets blinded with her contact lenses. So of course this is a sensitive subject hence M3chef's warnings and statements. As long as you do it right (which it sounds like you plan to) then all the more power to you. Once it thaws out up there I'll be anxious to hear how the install went and what your opinion is. As far as others installing them, I do know one that has done it (actually a fellow Canadian). You can read his post here: HID's installed in 2013 GT - ElantraClub - For Hyundai Owners and Enthusiasts He is the first that I have seen to install HID's on a GT.

![]() Thought I made it clear twice that you can certainly do what you want, but many Americans (myself included) read this forum and this needs to be made clear (again, as I stated). As far as "Mr. BMW-man," I DD a Honda. The old M costs half what the Hyundai did. BTW, that ole M has a TSX HID retrofit. A proper one!
