No problem. Just a Whocaholic.

Assuming the illustration of the mounts for the factory rack are accurate, the seals are cut different from those of the control tower system. They are cut to fit into the depressed black molding. (pic of a control tower below) I may end up modifying the control tower system I have. But I still would like to know if there is a drain on those install points.

If you find out the answer let me know ... I installed the same Yakima system about two weeks ago ... I was planning on just filling the gap with some silicone caulking (clear) and then smoothing it so the landing pads still sit flush. The nice thing about the clear silicone caulking is that it will come out easily if needed but still forms a good seal. I am going to use blue painters tape to around the mounting points when applying to make clean up easier.

Your solution is one I am considering. Please do let us know how things go after some rain. If there are two of us, then there are likely more.

If you have a sunroof due to it being a PAN roof you cannot have OEM's the mounts are removed from the car when the roof is put in you have to go aftermarket. I suggest Yakima roof systems

Except they dont offer anything for the models with the sunroof , only thing they have attaches to the integrated points on the non-pano models.

The only sunroof compatible model Ive found is this guy,

Cargo Management - Rola

True, but not the perfect price. I got what I needed to mount mine for a lot less than what the dealer sells the complete rack. Also my tandem carrier would not work with the dealer rack...it needs a round or square bar. That would have been yet another expense.

BTW, I have contacted Hyundai and they say they will have an answer for me in the near future. I will share that info.

Below is the answer I got from Hyundai America:

After researching your inquiry about drains in the roof of your 2013 Elantra, we found that there are no drains in your roof. The only roof system that employs drains would be for those vehicles with a sunroof. We are not able to provide any further technical information about what might happen with any water at the roof rack attachment points.

If you have concerns about rust or damage from the water, we recommend that you speak with your dealership about the need/method for weatherproofing the attachment points.

Having gotten this, I have concerns that the covers provided for use with no rack installed will do an adequate job of sealing. Water has a knack for getting into places that you do not want it. I would also be concerned that the OEM rails do an adequate job of sealing if I were using them. For my part, I will be only installing my Yakima in fair weather and removing it after use. Kind of a PITA, but oh well. I will also be checking from time to time to make sure there has been no water intrusion. IMO I think they screwed up by not providing drainage.
