What he's saying is that with the delayed accessory power, if you turn the car off and then realize you forgot to close the roof, you can't just close it, as you can with the windows.

Yep, I tried this. Once you shut off the car, you can't close or open the power shade even if you do it right after but windows are good for a little longer as long as the doors aren't opened.

I don't find this an issue though because I'll just flip the key back to the on position without starting the engine to get electrical power again although I guess this might be more of a problem for those with the tech package that has the start-stop button instead.

From what soccercory7 said, it is no problem with the push button start, either. When the engine is off, pressing the button twice with foot OFF the brake gives you aux 'on' mode. Close the roof, pressing the button once more with foot OFF the brake takes you to aux off mode.

I'm getting 42 mpg in my Elantra GT basic model automatic, 16 inch rims and Nexen OEM tires. ECO and non-ECO no detectable difference. Highway journey average of repeated runs both ways, near to 60 mph on cruise all the way.
(Hated Hankooks on my trade-in Sonata, hated big wheels, hated in-car Nav prefer free Garmin updates, hated low passenger seat).
I like my Elantra GT.

OK here it goes I got 5.9l per 100km, most of it highway. This is travelling from west TO to Mississauga. About 25km total. Best yet!
Traffic was moderate.
The worst I got on a tank from new was 6.9l per 100km. Otherwise I hover at 6.5l per 100km.
Petro Canada gas seems to be the best for mileage, Esso not so much.

For some reason, Hyundai programs cars to not allow the roof to be closed when the car is turned off. My '04 GT was this way as is my wife's '08 Entourage. There was a DIY put together to get the roof to close with the key out for the XD's, but I personally never did it. To me it doesn't make sense, but there must be some sort of a reason they have it programmed this way?

Do you mind if I ask how much you have on your odometer? I drive the Mississauga area a lot. Even if those are the computer readings and it's off by ~0.5L/100km that still means you'll pulling ~6.4-7.0L/100km and that's pretty good.

I also gas up at Petro Canada only as I have a combination of cards that gets me up to 10 cents off per litre. I may experiment and try Shell as I've heard Shell typically has some of the best gas in southern Ontario.

Hrm... I don't know. I thought that was pretty standard for most cars? I can't say for certain as the last two cars I drove were bare bone base models with no power anything or sunroofs. This is my first car with a sunroof to be honest so I have almost no experience. My wife's 2010 Honda Civic has the same thing though I think, can't open or close the sunroof with the car off.

My 2001 and 2006 Malibus had sunroofs and you could roll up the windows and close the sunroof with the car off and key out, so long as a door wasn't opened. As soon as a door was opened, the car killed the power to anything that was still on (radio for example), and you would have to turn the car to "ON" (without starting) to operate windows or roof.

OH! and speaking about sunroofs, it's really pissing me off that I can't figure out how to vent my **** panoroof! I either close the sun shade or open it all the way! LMAO! Stupid ass thing!

I honestly just don't understand why the roof isn't included!

The reason sunroofs may have restrictions on how they close and under what conditions is for safety reasons - if a passenger, especially a child, is standing in the opening, they could be seriously injured or killed. The same situation occurs with power windows, but the motors that power these are much less powerful and the risk with windows is mainly having an arm in the opening, not a head or torso.

The systems that are more flexible also tend to be the ones that have sensors or anti-stall circuitry that can detect when there is a potential issue. But these systems cost extra. The whole logic of what is allowed is probably governed by the safety regs in various markets. Some mfgs may just decided to be more conservative to cut down the lawsuits.

I'm not justifying the design, just explaining why things are the way they are.
