I don't understand why they chose those bulky headrests instead of the sleek ones found in some other models that fold partly like the middle one. These ones also have to be removed when folding the seats flat.

Its funny , if my wife didnt have the 2012 accent I would prob be pretty frustrated with the rear visablilty, but in comparison to the accent the GT has wonderful rear visibility.

Great idea! I'm going to leave them off while I get accustomed to the car. I also got my plates, so no more temporary license blocking my view. Much better.

I purchased a 2013 Elantra GT SE in white in early October, this is my first new car. But to get straight to the point in line with this thread, the things I don't like about the GT after a month of driving are;

1) The gas mileage, this is a huge sticking point for me. You can see in my sig, as of currently I'm averaging 7.7L/100km or 30.5MPG. These are not terrible numbers but my previous car was a '99 Corolla and she routinely clocked 33 to 34MPG without me even trying to be conservative on the driving (110-120kph on the highways, heavy throttle on starting from stops etc.). I've managed to squeeze out 32MPG on the GT with a feather-weight foot on the pedal and keeping my max speed to 100 kph on highways but I gotta say I am sorely disappointed by the FE so far. If I drive it a little heavier and go 110 kph on the highways and heavier throttle from stops like I did with my Corolla, then the GT's FE goes down to 27-29MPG. I was anticipating that I would at least match the FE from my Corolla, I'm not even coming close to it IMO and I feel pretty burned by Hyundai.

2) Rear visibility, the rear windshield is small... I'm pretty much adjusted to it but it's still small.

3) The lines on the side of the car, looks great from the outside but it really screws me up when I'm parking and trying to be parallel with the parking spots. I always glance out the window and make sure my the outside edge of my door is parallel to the parking lines but with the way these lines curve and everything on the GT, it's messing me up good. I think I've finally got it nailed down now but I am OCD anal about my parking so it's been a frustrating month of relearning how to park!

Other then that I love the car, the panaromic is fantastic and it's what sold me on the car but dang does that gas mileage bother the heck out of me.
Welcome to the forum. I agree that there are numerous things I really like about the car- sunroof is fantastic, power and heated seat is comfortable, and the car is the best looking of the hatches.
However, the debacle with the gas mileage still really ticks me off. I continue getting a lot lower than the EPA (avg 25 mpg) even though I am driving much more conservatively than usual and DID buy this car as a daily driver based on gas mileage as a big factor. Granted I live in an urban area with traffic and hills (San Fran Bay) but my last 3 cars have always met or exceeded their EPA numbers under the same driving (actually driving less conservatively). I can understand folks saying it is only 2 mpg and a few on this site or the Elantra site are actually hitting the numbers. The point is Hyundai fudged the numbers and they deserve the bad press they are getting regardless of the spin they put on it. I will let it go since I refuse to take the $$ hit of getting rid of a new car but am pissed that I bought the car with false info provided by Hyundai and the EPA can't be counted on to back it up. Granted only 2 car models (not brands) have been called on this in the past but as a wise consumer I resent being manipulated by any corporation and when I find out about it they lose any future business and respect. Sorry Hyundai, I had been singing your praises before. Getting caught and offering minor reparations does not eliminate your manipulation of the buying public. Apparently, those of us who are pissed are not alone:

What are you expecting the EPA to do to "back it up"? They investigated the mileage complaints and ran their own tests that did not back up Hyundai's. This forced Hyundai to pay for the difference between their false ratings and the correct ones. What else do you expect the EPA to do?

I would expect the EPA to really slap manufacturers with a HUGE fine if they are going to make "procedural" errors so that they would all learn a lesson that it is not reasonable to BS them or the buying public. Most folks do look at those bold mileage numbers on the stickers when comparing and buying cars. If they had they funding, they could test more cars but the govt is already having enough $$ issues for that.

So you want the money to go to the government to pay "HUGE" fines rather than refunding it to customers? And always keep in mind that any fines levied on the mfg are going to be paid by the customer when they buy their next car. It's a zero-sum game. Your suggestion for huge fines means customers pay more to the government.

Hyundai got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and now they're refunding directly to customers exactly the amount customers have been shorted + 15%. EPA's monitoring of the system worked EXACTLY as it is supposed to. For us, there is the hassle of setting up the account to be paid and periodically taking odometer readings, but other than this, it seems eminently fair to me.

For those that have heated seats, has anyone else noticed that they don't get very warm and take a long time to actually GET warm?

Might just be me, last vehicle had aftermarket heat and got pretty warm on HI, even on the coldest days, had to keep it on LO once it warmed up. I find I need to keep the GT on HI all the time and it's not even really that cold yet.

I've used them a couple times in the morning. Normally after a few minutes I turn them down to low, although it hasn't been too cold down here. Only been in the 30's a couple morning's so far. The only thing I have to compare to is my wife's Entourage and I can't say I've used her heated seats (nor mine yet) enough to make a good comparison.

I haven't noticed any problems with mine. It's been only a few degrees after freezing in the Toronto area for a few weeks in the mornings and it takes under two minutes for the seats to start heating up on HI. I'm not afraid of the cold so I'll usually flip it to LO for another 5 minutes and my buns are toasty enough after that without needing it.

My wife is more afraid of the cold though and she'll keep it on LO for a lot longer. I've been in a friend's VW Jetta before with heated seats and it usually takes a few minutes to get them warmed up as well. I'd say my GT's seats are comparable.
