Last Saturday I took my car in for a oil change at my east valley Hyundai dealer. Picked it up Saturday afternoon. Monday I drove to work. It's a 37 mile drive each way and when I got about 2 miles from the office the oil light came on. I parked car at the office and popped the hood. Oil level was fine on dipstick and I also removed and retighted the oil cap. I started the car again and the light was still on. So lucky for me I have a Scottsdale dealer a 1/4 mile away. I called them and took it in yesterday afternoon. When I started the car the light did NOT come on this time. I dropped off and 3 hours later they called me to say that they looked everything over and also ran diagnostics on it and the were no codes or errors that came up.
So I took the car and drove home. About a mile from the house the oil light came on again. This time I took video of it and called my local dealer in the east valley. They were closing early so I told them that I'll bring it in to one of the dealers when it acts up again. I took it out today and I made 2 stops and it came on twice. I don't get it and I don't understand how they wouldn't be any error codes that come up. Any thoughts? |

Not super positive to oil filter used..... but if this filter has a nipple on bottom with o-ring on it,, they may have not installed filter correctly with nipple sitting on bottom of canister located correctly.. this will cause the oil light to come on.. best to tow it there.
Seems to me there might have been case where engine failure resulted from filter install wrong.. I think we had 1 show up that just had oil changed at dealer across town, and we found the nipple mashed. Look at bottom of filter in the pic swiped from Hyunda 2012 SHOP pages :

I could be wrong, but my guess is - faulty oxygen sensor. Just in case make sure the fuel door cap is tightened properly. How many miles on your car? Have you added any additives to the gas? Good luck.

Red oil warning light has nothing to do with OBD-II..
I want to know if the oil filter is installed incorrectly.. and would like for you to stand there while fella removes the cap on the canister and lift oil filter out. Report back please with finding.

Verdict is in..Scottsdale dealer said that my east valley dealer used incorrect oil filter. Causing the oil pressure sensor to come on. Questions now is I'm calling east valley dealer to let them know what happened. Do I ask for comp for my trouble or just avoid them going forward?
