Cracked windshield

Hello. I just bought the car three weeks ago and I am very happy with the purchase until this evening. I have 12" cracked on my windshield. I believe someone shot a BB gun at my Santa Fe on the highway, leaving a perfect round shape (1") on the driver side windshield, possibly aiming for me. During the impact I noticed a round chip but I got home I spotted the 12" crack. I'm not if this is safe to drive. Does anyone know if this is covered by the warranty or should I call my insurance for the repair?

No way will Hyundai cover it. Comprehensive coverage on your insurance. Often glass is 0 deductible.

Report it to the police. You may be not the only victim.

Very unfortunate incident. Our Daughter had her entire drivers windshield shot out at college in Rhode Island by some POS with a BB gun.

I feel for you. My last 2 new cars have had their windshields chipped within the first 3 wks of ownership. I swear I'm cursed.

Defintely get it fixed and ensure you get it done by reputable service provider that uses OEM or better glass. Your windshield is an integral part of any cars safety structure, especially in a roilover accident. I have seen many reports on TV about poorly installed or inferior glass reducing the integrity of the vehicle.

Coverage depends on your insurer's policy...ie whether there is a deductible and how much it is. My insurance has $300 deductible for a new windhield, but they repair chips at now cost. I price a new windhield for my HL a while back and it would have cost $550 because of heating element and blue stripe at top.

Thanks everyone for your input. I will get with my insurance today to see what they can do. My deductible is 500 for comprehensive coverage so I guess this is the only option I have. I'm upset that someone would do something like this. Maybe it's because the auto glass company paid a kid to damage the windshield of randomly people in the area.

Just curious how you know it was someone with a BB gun? I have a perfectly round circle below and left of the rear view mirror on my truck. I know it was a rock because I was following a semi when it happened. As a shooter and having been around guns my entire life, unless they were facing you head-on it would be rather challenging to hit a moving car with a BB gun at any distance other than point blank.

don't use insurance to pay for the windsheild if your deductable is $500. It is cheaper to just go buy one and have it installed for about $300. save yourself some money. don't use insurance if you dont have to!

Not for everyone but it has worked for me:
I have never replaced a windshield in my cars. The windshield gets a tuff coat of wax every wash.

Just checked with Safelite and they don't have one yet and they OEM ones are back ordered until mid Feb. Price quote was $758 plus tax. Ouch!

Mine got hit 2 times in 3 months, rocks. First time it was filled for free, second time it cracked top to bottom and was replaced. 750.00 less my 100.00 deductable.
