Default Adding Carpeting to the trunk walls

Hi, has anyone considered adding carpeting to the surfaces that are just bare plastic in the trunk? I've seen this on the Acura RDX and it probably improves sound absorption, looks really clean, and you don't get scratches on the bare plastic. Not sure if it's possible or even if someone sells this as a kit. Any thoughts?

thanks
Bob

I`ve often wondered if this could be done...My RAV-4 was all marked up after years of golf bags, etc...

I`m hoping that the forum 'think tank' comes up with something...I`ll be watching this thread carefully..

Thanks for starting it...Cheers..

Probably easy to do at an audio shop where they use that red spray glue and carpeting just goes right on the plastic. Would probably make things quieter back there like you said.

Sounds like an interesting idea, but would any carpet stretch enough to conform to the contours back there? If not, I doubt it would look that great, and then the question becomes one weighing the look of shoddy carpet vs a few scratches that can be masked somewhat with the right product. Anyway, if anyone is able to do with good results (professional looking), I would certainly be interested...even if nothing else than to dampen some noise.

This is an interesting thread. It touches on my only real complaint with the Santa Fe. At highway speeds, I get a " booming " resonance coming from the rear of the vehicle. That's not totally surprising as the entire rear acts somewhat like a sound chamber. However, I've had vehicles with similar design characteristics that weren't nearly as noticeable in that respect.

Carpeting some areas back there may well be a means to mitigate some of the noise. I will address this with a friend who owns a high-end auto stereo shop and get his opinion. If he thinks the idea has merit, I'll get it done. I've seen a lot of his work. I'm certain it can be done with an elegant appearance....the question is whether or not it will effectively deal with the issue of noise. If it's worth pursuing at all, I'll give you all some feedback.

If you don't already have one, the cargo cover might help with suppressing some of that noise from the back.

I too find the carpeting idea interesting. I look forward to hearing what your friend thinks.

I was thinking the same thing, but on the front doors, between the cup holder on the bottom and the armrest on the door......it seems i am putting alot of marks on the plastic when i get out. I was thinking of putting blk carpet between this area so it doesn't get scratced up.

Yeah, I don't think that would be my cup of tea. I'm pretty careful and the HL I just sold was in mint condition except for a few minor scrapes on the plastic on the rocker panel. Carpet in the cargo I could handle, especially if it deadens noise levels.
