Well given the EPA mpg revision debacle I would think Hyundai engineering would be inclined to revise the programming if it resulted in better mpgs and no side effects to anything.

For me I'll the auto box do the shifting - on my Saab they have the shift paddles on the steering wheel where I think it's more convenient but I've only used them a couple of times when I 1st got the car and never since. Too tasking for me to do.

As mentioned above: RPM`s = gas consumption...If you keep an eye on the 'real time' M.P.G. reading as you shift, note that the M.P.G. reading jumps up as you shift to a higher gear.

Granted, the same would happen eventually using 'Drive', but by shifting manually at 1900 RPM, instead of 2300+ RPM`s in drive, it has to improve gas milage.

I now shift manually about 75% of the time...For me, it`s also kind of fun. Another 2 cents

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to try that. However, I'm concerned that the acceleration will be too slow for my liking.

I hear you John..I`ve found that the tranny will NOT let me shift manually til it hits 1850-1900 R.P.M.`s, so when I do shift, it`s not like it drops down to 1000 or so. It usually drops 300-400 R.P.M.`s, and there is no engine lugging...Also, you can always give it some more gas, and / or shift again if you want more giddy-up-go.

I`ve reached the point where I don`t watch the tach for the 1900 R.P.M.`s (before shifting) any more. The sound of the engine tells me...(remember the 50`s and 60`s?)....

Try it and see what you think.
