Default 2013 Santa Fe " Shark Fin " antenna question...

To prevent damage caused by car wash brushes, my owners` manual says to remove the antenna by twisting it counter-clockwise prior to entering a car wash...
To me, it would seem that doing this repeatedly would damage or degrade the antenna gasket...I use a commercial car wash often, so this is a concern...
Any thoughts on this?...Does it really have to be removed?...It seems to have a very tight fit...
Your input and/or experience with this is welcome....

I don't think the sharks fin antenna is designed to be removed. Maybe that only applies to vehicles with traditional antenna? If I ever use a carwash I prefer laserwash, its brushless.

Thank you, someguy..your input is appreciated..
However, in section #4, page 157, of my manual, it states:
"CAUTION..Before entering a place with a low height clearance or a car wash, remove the antenna by rotating it counterclockwise. If not, the antenna may be damaged"

Weird, I didn't know shark antennas could be removed, plus the way the are, they're not an issue going thru car washes, did it for 3 years on my RT and never was a problem, don't worry about it.

I don't think the shark fin style antenna is removable. I think the manual is referring to the "stick" style antennas, which can be unscrewed to remove. I don't think the shark fin can be damaged when run through a car wash.

Thanks...I hope (and think) you`re right, as I don`t plan on trying to remove it...It`s kind of strange, though, that they would put that in the manual, as all 2013 Santa Fe models are equipped with the "shark" antenna....I guess the proof reader missed it before going to press...

As for me....I'd prefer to hand wash it myself. Especially on a new car. I'm the guy who parks waaaay out in the parking lot to avoid being banged by doors or shopping carts.

Oh, how it kills me to have to use car washes during the winter. I have no other options. They use a lot of salt on the roads here, and I try to get ot off as soon as possible. It breaks my heart every trip through.

Sometimes in NJ winter there's a somewhat warm day. We have a few "do it yourself" places where you can drop in a few quarters and at least hose off the gunk.
