I agree you can drive away within 30 seconds but that statement was done by a company in Califiornia. When its -20 or colder your oil is like tar, im going to let my vehicle warm up a bit, especially with a turbo charged engine.

The idea is simplicity hence why I use the smart start, my phone is always on me, I start the vehicle with the phone, put my phone in my pocket, walk out to vehicle, push black button on door handle, get in, push the brake pedal and drive off. It can't get any easier. I have used the smart start for over a year now in my other car and its been great! I have heard a few complaints on here about it but I have always had good luck with mine. My original remote starter fobs are just sitting at home which I can still use but yes then I would have to carry another fob which sucks.
it is wired properly , my elantra is not a push start with prox
if you like it great
i dont see the value , its over priced ,if you have owned it for a year than you would know all about the outages and constant
app updates to get it work right ... yes even on iphone lol

I read that your a service manager ... thats great so am i We should share some stories !!!!

The Hyundai Canada Remote Starter Kits are defaulted for a 3 minute run time. However, it is the customers choice to change it to 8 or 15 minutes if they like.

That's where block heaters, oil pan heaters or engine blankets come into play. But ultimately it's up to each owner to decide if they're going to idle, as long as they're ok with the potential future costs as well as the excess greenhouse gasses.

Idling your car for any more than 5 min is for comfort IMHO. I will usually tell people warming up for more than 1min is for comfort.Start the car idle for 30secs or so just long enough to put seat belt on and adjust the seat and radio and go.Just be easy on it for the 1st mile or so.Even in the -20deg F in ND here. All my vehicles I run to 200,000.Having said that still our new 2013 will likley have an Astro start or something similar in it by next winter.Im waiting for the bugs to get worked out with the new model. My wife likes comfort so we will be getting a remote start at some point.

So, I just spoke with my local dealer and they quoted me $690 for the Hyundai 2-way remote start system, installed. They said it is a Hyundai start designed for Hyundai (probably made by DEI).

What is interesting though, is the parts guy told me that the FOBs that come with the auto-start replace the proximity fobs that come with the push-button start vehicles so NO NEED TO CARRY 2 FOBs!!!

He also told me that they take back the 2 proximity fobs that came with the vehicle, which seems kinda strange. Anyway, I was just about to spring for a Viper 5904 while my parents are in States (really inexpensive) and have installed by Future Shop who are authorized dealers, but I think I will just go with the Hyundai system....I don't like the idea of carrying 2 FOBs.

One thing I forgot to ask, is range of remote start. Anyone have experience with it and tested range? I don't expect to get the 1 mile range of the Viper, but I hope its more than 50 ft.

EDIT: RANGE--called back and was told that 1-way system is 500 metres, 2-way is about 1000 metres, or .62 of a mile....line of sight of course. Nevertheless, this is more than sufficient. Sold!

The range is definately more that 50ft. I would estimate it is approx 2000ft (depending on where you are. Area's with high frequencies such as Downtown area's may have less).

But currently, you probably will have to carry 2 FOB's (Stock & Remote starter). I would re-confirm this with your Canadian dealer.

Be careful about Aftermaket Remote Starters as they will void your factory warranty (components integrated into the remote starter) which can be very costly at the end

You will need to carry 2 fobs, the proximity keys still need to be used and do not go back to the dealer. I have put quite a few in the new Santa Fes and they work great. The range is no different than any other remote as they are the same syatem just in a hyundai box. Also the 1 way and 2 way have the same range.

i have the dealer installed auto-start in my SFS Ltd, and i was told i do need to carry both key fobs, however, if you only remote start it at home, you do not need to carry the other fob everywhere, just start the vehicle, then go out to it with only the original fob in your pocket!
