I am not going to do it now but after the OEM tires are worn out. I would like to get the tallest and widest tires that will work on this stock rim with no rubbing issues from inside the wheel well.
I just like the looks of a lot of rubber but still an all season tire. Plus the 2.0T rides a little rough on the low profile tires and I would hope that with a taller sidewall it would improve the ride some and do not mind if the handling is a little reduced. Does anyone know the max tire size I can get? Can the dealer adjust the computer so the speedometer is correct? If not I could live with it reading 5 mph slower, would just do the speed limit by the off speedometer, that is what I did in my Dakota when I added 31"X10" tires. Looked great and rode great! |

you should be able to run 255/260/265/270 profile sizes without a problem.
your speedometer won't be impacted that much with a simple profile change. what WILL impact is moving to an entirely new dimension (e.g. 19 --> 20 --> 17, etc.) D |

It will impact the transmission! Your transmission looks at the speed and makes decisions on when to shift. If you change the over all tire diameter then you change the way the transmission changes gears and that can put stress on parts. Just keep that in mind. A small difference in speed is ok like 1-3 mph. More than that then you could start damaging the transmission. You will have to get the speed calibrated to match the tire diameter for those kind of diameter changes. Your fuel economy can take a hit on this as well as the over all diameter adds weight and takes more power to get it rolling. the same happens for stopping but if you did it in the Dakota then you know how it changes the performance.

I've posted something similar elsewhere in the forum a while back but here's a similar article:

These articles are talking about a major upsize as in 16 to 20 or something like that. I just want to get a taller sidewall to help out the rough ride a little. With the Dakota I went from a regular ize 15" tire to a 31 X 10 which would have been like going to a 22" wheel with low profile tires. Definatly am not going that extrem but with the Dak only saw the speedo was off by 4 mph but nothing else and drove it that way for 50000 miles. I would go down to 17" or 18" with a taller tire keep the oem specs but do not want the added cost of new wheels plus I think it would look nice to lose some of the fender/tire gap.

Best thing is to change the wheels as well - get the smallest diameter that'll fit over the disks/calipers and then use the increased sidewall height to get the rolling radius back to standard.
