I know the built in Navs are far from perfect.
I use the one I have in my MKZ and am quite happy with it. Perhaps because it's pre-MyTouch ![]() In my process to try and decide between Outback and SantaFe Nav has some weight as I use that more than I would some other Tech stuffs. Bluetooth I only need to pair my iPhone5 for Voice. I.e. answering calls while driving is about all I use it foe now. I do stream music from it occasionally. Lots of Nav complaints in the Outback forum. Haven't found many comments re Nav here. Is that because most are happy or because most have given up? I do like the 8" display in the SantaFe. Is my "like" justified? |

When I was shopping for cars, I got to play with the 2013 Ford Escape's MyTouch system. I wasn't impressed. The layout was complicated and unintuitive in my opinion.
The layout in my SF is much better and simpler. I love having the physical climate controls instead of controlling it through the nav. Pairing bluetooth to our Android phones is flawless, and streaming music and/or doing phone calls is awesome from a sound quality and simplicity standpoint. The only thing I'm not impressed with is the actual navigation experience itself, but maybe it's partially because I haven't fully learned it yet. First off, it's not a 3D view...only 2D. I still need to figure out how to leverage my favorite locations better, and I feel like entering in addresses as target locations could be easier. I've just continued to use Google Maps/Navigation on my phone until I maximize my knowledge of the built-in navigation system. |

Aside from entering stuff, in actual usage is it accurate?
I.e. on 4 lane highways, does it show you on the correct side? Are turn instructions accurate? or rather timely? Seems some folks over at OB complain about instructions after the turn, I.e. late. Of course one has to take all that with a grain of salt, but that's ok, I can do that

I really haven't used it very much, but for the use I have gotten out of it the instructions come with sufficient time to plan my moves, they've all been accurate, and I love the diagrams it gives you of exits and interchanges to show which lane you're supposed to be in. It's reasonably intuitive, though it takes a little getting used to (of course, that may be the part of me which doesn't like Nav systems talking). The screen size and screen are fine, no problem whatsoever with those.

I took a road trip and used the Nav the entire trip. It was very accurate. The 3d "lane assist" type of diagram was accurate, it let me specify that I had an EasyPass for tolls and directed me to the fast lanes that bypass the cash tolls in New Jersey, and my favorite feature was the additional navigation display in the gauge cluster - it gives you a simple and straightforward heads up to what is coming and how far away that is.
I've seen some people complain about the default view not being 3d, but in my opinion that's just some fluff nonsense anyhow. The aerial view is just fine and the real pretty 3d interface kicks in when needed. EDIT: Also, One of the first things I did when I got the Santa Fe was mute the Nav voice. No need for that in my opinion. It just annoys me with cutting my tunes in and out!

If this is the case, then I would be quite happy with that since that is when it is when it really comes in handy anyway. |

As a new Santa Fe owner and prior Lincoln MKZ owner I can comment on the experience of both. The SF screen size is comparable to the the Lincoln Sync system. The 2D rendering is okay by me as 3D is un-necessary but a nice added feature if available. Entering destination info can be cumbersome but some of that may be getting use to the system and the Sync system was just as bad. I like the split screen display of the nav in the SF and the upcoming turns or directions are good especially seeing the actual road signs on screen as they also appear on the highway is a nice touch. Directions seem to be timely and accurate although the tone indicating a turn seemed late by comparison to the Lincoln but the actual notification of a turn was well in advance. I wish there was a way to turn off the "merge ahead" indications as they can be annoying if on a busy highway with entrance ramps every mile or so.
I would prefer the 8" screen to allow a split view to see the map, audio info and climate info all at the same time as in the Lincoln. However the current SF screen will only allow one or the other. Still waiting for a "last setting used default" update though. |

I took a photo of this the first time I saw it because I wasn't sure what so many people here were saying about wishing it was "3D." Then I realized they were talking about the regular old view. Anyhow, the photo is on my previous phone so i'll grab it and post if i remember.
