I too have begun having creaking noises in the dash about a week ago or so. Predictably, it comes out after I've been driving for about 10-15 minutes with the heater on. Once it comes out, it doesn't stop until I park the car overnight. Rinse and repeat.
Having read your suggestions, I took a 1/2" x 1" x 4-ft piece of foam I have and shoved it down the gap where the dash meets the windshield. Took it out for a quick drive and didn't hear a thing - except maybe for a pop or two. Repositioned the foam and I'll observe over the next few days. Thanks for the tip gents. N

Cold weather = creaky interior plastics.
If it really bothers you and you can't solve it with foam, try a shot of silicone spray. It worked for my 1980s Hondas and every car since. |

2013 Santa Fe with 1,400 miles and I too have the creaking or tapping noise coming from the dash. The noise seems to come from the very top center where the speaker is mounted. I thought it was something connected to the speaker or CD player (just underneath) but it very well could be where the windshield meets the dash. The sound is annoying and seems to increase as the vehicle warms up. I also get the sqeaking noise from the rear seat area that some are complaining about. That noise is even more annoyingto me than the dash noise because it is constant. I'll try some of the suggestions given here and report back if I haven't gone crazy before then.

BooYaa, that's exactly where I had the sound coming from the dash. Weather stripping seems to do the trick...I still have a noise free dash since I first put the weather stripping in.

Yup, that's exactly where mine's coming from too. So far so good with the foam insert I placed.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Two pieces of foam inserts and the noise is back. It was 25 degrees out this morning and that will definitely exacerbate the problem but it's still annoying.
I've ordered a can of 3M Silicone Spray (wet) and do what Don suggested above. Some folks might say that silicone sprays might eat into interior materials but based on what I've read in other places, this particular brand and type is safe to use. Infiniti and Lexus have been quoted to recommend it's use -and nothing else - by dealers for similar applications.

So far, my new Santa Fe Sport 2.0T has not developed this dash rattle, but I do not have the fancy radio with 12 speakers. Could the rattle be related only to cars equipped with the technology package, which includes the upgraded radio with 12 speakers?
Is there anyone that does not have the technology package and fancy radio experiencing this problem? Joe |

Yup, no tech package here. I've got the 4.3" display with the little storage cubby on top of the dash. The noise is coming from exactly where BooYaa says it's coming from. If you put slight pressure with your hand just north of the speaker/cubby you should notice the noise diminish or stop.
The weather stripping I've put between the windscreen and dash doesn't really stop noise coming from that area, but more so to push the dash down slightly stopping the noise from just north of the speaker/cubby area. That's what i surmise anyhow. I suspect this is only a temporary fix as i think over time the weather stripping will compress and lose it's ability to push the dash down. Who knows? While Temperature might have a small role to play here, I don't think it's the cause. The noise problem in my case got progressively worse over about a month or so forcing me to consider taking the car to the shop which i didn't want to do, or seek out help here in the forums. I don't worry about it anymore, there has not been a peep since the weather stripping fix and if it does act up again it's going into the shop. |
