My car background: I usually keep my cars for ten years. I owned (and loved) my Ford Explorer Sport back in the '90s, but got rid of it when the Firestone tire recall disaster arose. Purchased a new (really safe) Volvo S60 sedan in 2002, absolutely loved it, but always missed having an SUV. Traded the Volvo in on this new Hyundai and have not regretted it for a moment. Yes, ten years have passed since the Volvo buy, but the SFS is much more luxurious and comfortable, and just as solid. I am also getting almost exactly the same MPG as the sedan so happy with that for now.

My one current concern is wind noise at >60 mph, but I know that has already been reported. I special ordered my SFS without a sunroof because I did not want to give up my roof racks (plus a sunroof can only be used for a couple months a year in hot Central FL anyway), so that is not causing the wind noise. It sounds like the windows are not completely shut and that bothers me.

Anyway, probably poor forum thread choice for my first post, but wanted to chime in on the discussion.
Congrats on your purchase of a great car, and welcome to the forum. I do notice a very faint wind noise (probably due to the mirrors as people have stated), but it's so minor that I wouldn't have really noticed it unless I read about it on here. If you have wind noise that's more than faint, maybe you don't have the window seals seated appropriately...I think I heard of someone having that problem on this forum and getting it fixed that way.

Just starting to feel bad since this whole site has pretty muched turned to Hyundai bashing since the mpg thing came out.

My first Hyundai and now second guessing it but not much I can do about it now.

Need more threads on how much they like the Santa Fe...guess I need to start one....huh!
First of all, to paraphrase Bart Simpson, "No way dude."

Secondly, I got to LOLing about the "we" being the Royal "We" or the "we" as a group.

Thirdly, I traded a Genesis Coupe for a Santa Fe Sport and couldn't be happier.

Fourthly, gotta take the boards with a grain of salt. There are so many people who drive Santa Fes who aren't on the boards. The folks who are here are here to learn and explore (and complain). I don't think that Hyundai would be anywhere near as successful with their products if they were poorly-built. I stopped going on the GenCoupe.com boards because of the constant negativity (and general meanness). Just wanted to chat with others who also owned the same car as me.

Enjoy your Santa Fe. If it means anything, I think you made a great choice. BTW, my mother owned her first gen Santa Fe for nine years with nary a major problem. She's had her second gen Santa Fe for nearly a year and loves it.

Your Santa Fe (and Hyundai) friend from El Paso, Texas, USA,

Daniel

The SFS is my first Hyundai ever and I've been keeping an eye on their quality for some time. I've heard nothing but positive reviews about their reliability and the number of first and 2nd generation SF I see on the road seems to confirm the positive reviews. I have no qualms at all at buying one.

I'm convinced that some people wouldn't be happy if you hung them with a new rope.

Cars are too expensive, so is gas , so are tires windshields and so on. And CO just recently raised the cost to register a car to astronomical levels.

Add to that the price of used cars has risen to the point where many are no bargain compared to buying a new car.

These are my complaints for the remainder of the day and perhaps for several days as I am taking a trip by car, but the SFS will remain garaged because it lost out to a more fuel efficient vehicle. I just hope the sky does not fall while I am traveling.

Personal thoughts, and ing.
It's interesting CO has resorted to raising registration fees. I've got OGM rights in Weld County- for over 75 years they've been fiscally responsible, provide social benefits to those in need for set periods of time and run a budget surplus. With production of Americas own resources and the income generated from fee's, taxes, public leasing of OGM rights, inspections and tariffs how can CO have budget shortfalls, unless they're not being prudent or offer the world while on a beer budget. Rant over.

Back to driving --- a well made, full featured, comfortable auto with an equitable, price to option value, thats fun and has room for Zeus the wonder dog -- my Hyundai Santa Fe Sport FWD.

It costs me over $800 to register the Sante Fe, CO has changed a lot in the last 20 yrs - big influx of population and with it increases in those using/needing social services, etc - so strains on the physical infrastructure (highways bridges buildings, etc) . And companies in oil and gas probably don't pay a proportional share for the resources they use and the profits they are making. Used to be a GOP stronghold but that has changed.
State income tax is fairly high here as well but overall property taxes much lower than in Eastern states. Weld County has what over 15k wells - hope you are making some money from the mineral rights. For me it's getting a bit too crowed here, esp Denver.
