Default Brand New Santa Fe owner - question about audio?

Hello! I am a brand new Hyundai owner - I just brought home a 2013 Santa Fe 2.0 with everything, and I couldn't be happier with it. It is a fantastic vehicle and I love, love, love it. I have figured out how to customize a lot of the settings, but have a couple of questions that I hope some of you who are more familiar with the vehicle can answer.

1. I have an older iPod classic. Do I connect the iPod cable to the car's USB? Will this keep the iPod charged? If not, is it better to connect the iPod's headphone jack to the AUX input? Or is there some better configuration? This iPod doesn't have Bluetooth.

2. This is a minor thing, but is there a way to make the radio go off when I turn the car off? Right now it continues to play until I open the door, which for some reason I find disconcerting. I already figured out how to turn off the auto headlight delay, so those go off now when I turn the car off.

Thanks very much for your help! So excited to be a part of the Hyundai family, and very happy to have found this forum.

Honestly I would buy the Hyundai Ipod cable. It will charge the ipod as well as allow you to use all of the steering wheel radio controls. You can continue to to use the touch screen. it will also display all the info and cover art from the ipod on the screen. I say this because with some of the other hyundais if you use the ipod supplied cable it can jumble up the artist and song title info. For the radio not turning off i do not believe there is a setting for that. You either have to let the opening of the door turn it off or just hit the power button on the radio each time you get out. And lastly congrats ont the new Santa Fe!!

You can simply plug the cable that came with your iPod into the car's USB. It will allow full steering wheel control ansd album art work, as well as providing charge. The special Hyundai cable is not required.

I find this an interesting question. I am trying to do the opposite. I prefer that the audio continue until I open the door. I cannot find a setting to turn Accesory Delay on. I wonder if the difference is in the radios. I have the stock radio. In your case, I would guess it would be turned off similar to the way the Welcome Sound is turned on or off. Only a guess though.

With my iphone 4s I had to buy the ipod cord. The regular cord just in the usb part would not charge the iphone. I bought a cord off of ebay from china for less than $5 and got it in a week.

Perhaps I mis-spoke a bit then. I can only vouch for the Apple cable working with the iPhone 4 and the iPod Nano 3rd generation.

Thanks very much for the replies. My iPod is an older one, so I'll try the cable that came with it. Love, love my Santa Fe!

Congrats on your new purchase. I purchased a 2013 Elantra GT a few weeks ago and love it. I'm also looking to get a Santa Fe possibly this January or February.

In our Santa Fe Sport 2.0T AWD w/tech package, the apple usb cord plugged into the usb slot works to charge our 2nd Gen iPod Touch and iPhone 4s. Not sure why the previous poster said it didn't charge the 4s.
