Instrument panel for right now since still on first tank of gas. I'm sure it isn't 100% accurate, but even if off by 3-4 mpg, I'd be fine with it.

Over 9 fill ups, mine has always been off ranging from 1.9 to 3.4 mpg high.

Plus, 25 miles isn't much of a sample. I don't mean to burst your bubble, just trying to be realistic and accurate. I hope you do actually get good mileage.

The computer MPG has been running anywhere from 1.4 to 3.4 MPG high for most of us...So even if yours is in that range, you`re doing VERY well, especially for a new vehicle!

Congrats on the new ride, and enjoy!

volntitan, can I ask when your Santa Fe was made, and how did it handle at the higher speeds?....Just curious..

Really disappointing to hear the number of you experiencing less than acceptable gas mileage.

I have had two turbos...one was a 1991 Eagle Talon AWD and the other a 2005 Subaru Outback XT. Both were pigs on gas when the turbo kicked in. Funny thing was, trying NOT to use the turbo was nearly impossible, unless I was in the mood to tick off anyone behind me by how slow I needed to accelerate. Glad the LWB is not turbo.

Not sure where the Santa Fe was made. Have to check when get home (wife's car). I know 25 miles isn't a perfect sample, but I have a Elantra that I drive and it's mileage is pretty true to form. Now I do not ride the gas or anything. Put it in cruise and go the speed limit (or slightly under) and get in the "slow lane" and cruise away.

Even if it gets 26ish on the interstate, I think that is pretty **** good for a vehicle that size and comfortable. We got it for road trips to breweries and such. Elantra just won't carry much

Default odometer error

Since my post in December, I've made more in depth calculations with mpg and odometer error. Calculations using Interstate 70 & 95 mile markers and several different brand gps's and several other auto odometers. The odometer is 2.4-2.5% slow. The speedometer is accurate. I believe my local dealer is convinced now that there is a problem. The service manager is contacting the next level up about the problem but so far, I've heard nothing. I really don't want to go over their head at this time since, other than this issue, they have been great to deal with and all super nice people. I would think the software should be easy to adjust for different tire sizes and all they would have to do is program me for 1" less diameter tires. If the speedometer then reads 2.5% too fast, that's OK since my wife drives too fast anyway. Doing a search, I only see a couple of members that have this error. Is there only a couple of us that have this problem? My dealers first attempt to solve this was to use their computer using the OBDII plug it would be using the same input as the odometer (I think) and therefore read the same. A separate gps will tell the correct readings.

I suspect most readers aren't concerned enough to test if they have this problem and therefore don't know. And if we did know, what can we do about it? At least I feel this way.

How does one easily test their odometer accuracy?
John

After 3800 miles, I am averaging about 16mpg around town and on most freeway trips (about 300 miles or so at a time) I get about 22.8 mpg. Based on actual fillups (miles driven vs gals of fuel). I tend to have a heavy foot and usually drive between 70 & 80 on the freeway where the speed limit is 70 but you will get run over trying to do that here in California!

Do you have a lead foot around town as well. I am at 5500 miles and do not do any hwy driving but all city/suburban and I have gotten consistantly 21-22 since the car was new and this is manually calculating and using fuelly. The dash shows 23-24 but we all know that is wrong.
