Front bumper

Hey guys! I drive a 2012 Hyundai accent (the 4 door sedan) and I was in an accident yesterday during an ice/snow storm. I'm thinking it may be cheaper for me to just order the parts online and replace them myself. I hit the front driver side bumper. I'm new to car stuff and am very unfamiliar with the technical names etc. so please forgive me if I don't give enough info for help.

Anyways. I'm going to have to obviously replace the bumper as well as the little vent on the front left side. I'm not sure if I'll have to replace what will actually support the new bumper as well.

Any help would be appreciated. Idk where to even begin. Do y'all have any helpful websites or suggestions? I'm a girl and literally have only replaced a tire and changed my oil before but I'm really eager to learn and really have no other options.

Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to the forum...

The front bumper (it's actually called the bumper cover), isn't all that hard to replace. But you'll need to have it painted. I'm not sure of the price to purchase one and get it painted, but someone here will probably be able to say what they're worth.

Here's a link to a forum topic that explains how to remove the bumper cover... http://www.hyundai-forums.com/233-rb...ctamy-diy.html

FWIW, you can repair dented and cracked bumper covers if they aren't damaged too badly. Body shops have equipment to re-form and weld the plastic. It might be worth getting a quote.

Darn, You got me interested in what a bumper cover costs. :) .. I did a quick Google search and see the MSRP is about $225.. This place has them for around $168 2013 Hyundai Accent Parts -

The cost to paint the front bumper is around $400 for a good job. I got mine redone paying cash last year.

If you are lucky, you could find a bumper cover from a junkyard that matches your color. Even if you had to have it shipped, that saves you the cost of painting and some cost on the parts (and the vent thing should be included with it).

I broke a rear windshield on an Acura Integra. The windshield glass replacement was $700, but I found a junk yard that sold me the entire rear deck lid in the same color for (IMS) $150 - which was also an easier install.

Paint costs vary a lot in price and quality. I have a faded area on my trunk (clear coat fading, and I've been quoted from $200 to $700 for the same repair.)

You might or might not need to replace or repair some of the supports behind it - depends how hard you hit whatever it was.

Can you post a picture of the damage?

Like a couple others said the painting is whats going to cost you. An aftermarket off-brand bumper might be cheaper, but i've heard stories of them not fitting correctly with the corresponding screws. OEM is the safest bet if the junkyard search fails.

I slid on some snow/ice and have damage to the frount bumper on the passenger side. the circle piece cover to the towing hitch is bent and there's a small hairline crack. I was told I'm looking at $700. to $800. to replace the bumper.

I'm wondering is there a way to get another one of those circle piece cover from Hyundai? I'm not considered with the crack enough to replace the whole bumper.

Thanks

Are you sure it is bent? Plastic pieces break but rarely bend. That piece is curved from factory; it will rotate causing it not to fit properly. Try rotating it until it matches the bumper shape or taking it out and reinstalling.

TOW EYE CAP for 2012 Hyundai Accent|86517-1R000

Should be 86517-1R000 for $1.30 for a 2012 Accent, but like the OP, you then have to get it painted if you can't find a matching one at the junkyard.
