Of course 3 season tires, or even all season tires wont perform excellent in snow/ice conditions. If you live in a climate that gest such weather, snow/ice tires are the way to go!
That being said, I think the Accent performs exceptionally well for a small cheap car... I have purposely made the car skid and (with traction control on) the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) works amazingly well! However, the traction control itself doesnt seem to be quite as good as the TCS in my XG350. The Accent seems to kill the power comepletely whereas the XG350 seems to limit the power while still accelerating slowly... |

So, the Mrs. has only had her new Accent since Saturday and has only driven it twice, including this morning, in our first real snow of the season.
Wow, did I get an earful. I drove 40 miles to work and told her that it wasn't too bad. Of course, even with practically bare Conti Extreme Contact DWS, my Altima handled a **** of a lot better than her Accent with the factory Kumhos. Oops. I'm ordering new tires for her as we speak. I'm hoping the previous posters in this thread are right and this will fix most of the problem. -Rob |

I just rotated the 14" Kumhos the other day and NJ hasn't had any snow on the roads this season yet so I'm praying there won't be. I can't afford better tires right now and my girlfriend can't afford to not be able to get to work.
I hate how car companies put the crappiest tires on their cars, not caring about our safety whatsoever.

That said, by my wife's account, those Kumhos really do suck in the snow. It's still well below freezing here and we only had about 1/2" of dry powder, but she reported that her traction control light was coming on every 10-15 seconds during her 9 mile trip this morning. She's not looking forward to going back home later. TireRack takes BillMeLater if it helps. Good luck. -Rob |

The best investment anyone could make that lives in an area with snow & ice is a good set of winter tires, if they keep you out of one accident over the time you own them they pretty much pay for themselves.

I had Yokohama Ice Guard 20s put on all around on my 16" rims...put up the Khumos for the Spring, with about 13k miles on them they still have life left in them. On the mixed snow, ice, and freezing rain so far the IG20s have been decent, and the milage has not suffered much either.

I had my OEM tires "siped" at Discount Tire earlier in the fall. They said it would increase traction in the snow greatly. Haven't seen snow yet (maybe tonight) so ill let you know... Anyone else get their tires siped?

I have a 2012 Accent SE. The 16" OE tires are a joke, the most frightening tires I have ever driven, mounted on the most frightening car I ever bought.
![]() I replaced them with a set of Kumho Ecsta 4X, at buy 3 get one free at Firestone. Took the old tires home to throw out (city will take 2 at a time), so no disposal charge, and they didn't do that TPMS reseal nonsense, so just tax and balance added. Free rotation for life. 100% better. I picked the car up in a snow-storm, and got whip-lashed when I accelerated, they're great tires. Like riding on clouds.. at least until the car destroys them. It's a shame to waste them on this car...

I had mud tires put on my 4X4 Tacoma (lots of tread). They were great in deep snow but down-right-dangerous on ice. I had them siped and it was like night and day difference. I was ready to rip them off before they got siped, but now I can leave them on year round.
Don't know about siping the Khumos though. I purchased Xice2 tires (+ 15" rims) for winter, and still using the stock Khumos (16" rims) for summer. I keep one of whatever I'm not running as a full size spare tire. |
