I remember many years ago, a race car driver (Jackie Stewart, maybe?) who said the way to drive is to envision an egg under your pedals. Always smooth and easy. . .don't crack that egg! And from my tractor-trailer teacher, to look waaaaaaaaay down the road and anticipate. These will get you your best MPG. And longer life from your vehicle.

NONSENSE!
You're fooling yourselves. I traded in a 2008 Impala. At a steady cruise set 68 mph I could get 33.8 mpg across PA and back.... It's hilly... with the AC on. The Accent gets 37.4 at the same speed, on flat highways. The Chevy was rated at 29 Highway, I beat it by 4+ easily. The Accent was rated 40mpg, and I very reasonably expected actually 43-44 cruising. My Corolla was rated 32, and it got 38+. The Accent never gets over 38. Hyundai hasn't a clue. ![]() The Impala had a avg. mpg gauge (and it wouldn't reset with each tank like the Accent). I averaged 29.1 mpg over 120,000 miles of combined driving. (105,000 to 225,000). Big disappointment the Accent is, to put it mildly. The car will actually cost me much, much, more to drive than the Impala, all things considered. And it would probably fit in the Chevy's trunk. At least they are sending me almost $100 for every 10,000 I drive, but it's chump-change compared to what this car is going to cost me to operate.

Well,
1- if every car I've owned can beat it's Highway Rated MPG when I drive it, why should I have expected the little Hyundai to be different? Read my post again, carefully. 2- Hyundai DID overstate the mileage, THEY fooled me and YOU... I was being reasonable, they simply lied. 3- AND: When I figure the mileage on paper, it is less than the gauge on the dash shows, every time. I'm not fooling myself. My only consolation is that this car won't last much longer. A year would surprise me, and 2 years is probably a fantasy. I ain't foolin' myself about that, either. My Impala asked for an oil change every 9,000 miles (hey, that's what they do: It's on the dashboard, very nice of them, won't you agree?) and never missed a beat in 226K. So I got mileage out of the oil, too.

I'm about to pass the one year and a half mark and my car has been running great. I think your being a bit too hard on our accents. I used to average 23ish mpg (city only) so I changed my driving habits. Now I average 29-30 mpg (city only). Even if they overstated the mileage, Hyundai made it up to us by giving us the difference back.

)1. This is the first car I have owned that I get better than the Sticker (Yes the Old sticker that they lied about) and I don't baby it. 2. I get combined 37.5 mpg (summer), 35 (Winter) Highway 41.5 (Summer) So they didn't fool me, In fact I bought it because it was the cheapest in price of any new car on any dealers lot(I got the base model) around me. Its more that doubles the 17 MPG at best I get with my Ranger that I stopped using as a daily driver. It was so cheap that I was able to keep my truck and just finance the car. 3. You are right about this, My car gauge shows 2 MPG average better than it really gets. The numbers above are figured and not by the gauge. I'm betting it lasts a lot longer than the first Hyundai I owned. It had over 100,000 when the Moose took it out.
