Default Throw Out/Slave Cylinder Chirping:

1. Had the dealer replace throw-out bearing.

2. Had the dealer replace the Slave Cylinder.

STILL getting a wicked chirping between the two... the engine vibration will wobble the throw out tongue that touches the slave cylinder piston, and there is a loud chirping between the two.

Is any other MANUAL accent owner noticing this on their cars?

I'm almost thinking the dealer didn't replace either part... it was two separate dealers I went to. The car literally sounded the same after each visit... the noise is EXTERNAL from the transmission where the metal ball of the piston meets the metal cup of the throw out bearing... WD-40, chain oil, grease, nothing will make it go away...

Suggestions...

All quiet here at 10,000 miles. Good luck and please keep updating. Cheers.

Mine is quiet as can be still at 8000 miles.

So they replaced the slave cylinder? I wonder if they did not lube the contact point at the fork that holds the throw out bearing. It takes a high temp grease that is thicker than bearing grease or any other spray lube. If that point where the ball contacts the fork is dry then it will make noise when the clutch is actuated.......if it makes noise while the engine is at idle though, then the slave is not installed properly or is not functioning properly because there is no extreme pressure there until the clutch pedal is pushed. I agree with you that they may not have replaced it if there was no decernable difference in sound.

Are you sure they replaced the throw out bearing? To replace it they would have to remove the transmission because it sits on the input shaft of the trans to come in contact with the clutch. A lot of warranty money to replace a throw out bearing.

Just a couple of thoughts....

One dealership said it was the throw out and "replaced it" they had my car for a day... they even suggested if I wanted to upgrade/change the clutch that now would be the time because they had to remove the tranny.

The second dealership (because I moved) said they would do the slave cylinder, and "did" two weeks ago. However, still same noise... it never went away after either "fix".

Lastly... no mention of the grease from them... so I would've suspected that they appropriately re-installed anything they un-installed.

The car currently has 40,500 miles on it (yep), and I've heard this chirping for the last 10-15k intermittently, 36k was the throw-out change, 40 was the slave cyl.

Quiet at 6,500 miles. Try some PB Blaster or grease where the fork meets the slave cylinder.

As above mentioned no dice...

My father's 88' F350 Super Duty had it's slave cylinder go, and I remember when we replaced it, there was this little plastic cap that went over the ball on the end of the piston, and this plastic cap rested between the ball and the fork (throw out arm). I'm wondering if there is supposed to be (or is a way to install) the same type of "fix" to this situation.

According to the dealer, there was no plastic cap on the new slave cylinder... but considering the car sounds exactly the same as it went in... who knows if they even did anything... really.
