Default 2012 Accent 1.6L GDI Engine Rattle/Knock/Buzz

Hello,

My 2012 Accent's 1.6L GDI engine has developed an engine rattle when under load and warmed up. Does anyone else have the same noise?

Thats the telltale "click" sound of any direct injection engine, nothing to worry about.

Our fuel injector are in the cylinder and they are loud. Of course, how loud it is to you is subjective.

However, I have noticed that using certain brands of oils tend to help with the noise our engine makes.

I've noticed that when using Quaker State Ultimate Durability, when I'm above 2500k miles into the oil-change-interval, the engine is "louder" than when it was when I first put the oil in myself.

Lately, I have switched to Castrol Edge w/ Titanium and the car is much quieter throughout the OCI as I'm on my 3rd run on Castrol Edge w/ Titanium and of course I use HYUNDAI OEM oil filters.

p.s. only 5w20 oil quaker state ultimate durability and castrol edge

I don't think the buzzing/rattle is normal because it does not happen every time I drive the car. Sometimes I can go days without hearing it and some days it's very loud. Running premium grade fuels seems to stop it for a short while.

It sounds like your experiencing engine knock (also called detonation or pinging). My accent had the same problem when accelerating at low RPM or going up a hill and I would describe it as a rattle too. Try using premium on your next fill-up or two as it has a higher octane rating and see if the noise goes away.

This will solve the problem if it really is detonation your hearing and if it does, I'd recommend paying the extra two or three dollars a tank and using mid-grade from now on to avoid damaging your engine - and you'll probably get better mileage as a bonus.

Higher octane gasoline doesn't increase mileage. In most cases it will decrease it.

How many miles in it, Hyundai recommends Techron as part of the regular maintenance search for 10-FL-014.

It has 30,200km on it. I have done the recommended 24k service on it which included the fuel system cleaner. I also always run top tier gasoline.
