Default Hyundai to reimburse for "misleading" fuel economy stickers

EPA finds Hyundai, Kia overstated gas mileage

Looks like we will be getting a debit card. I am somewhat appreciative, as I've been averaging 25MPG with 60/40 City/Hwy miles- 17% below what I should be getting for city alone. And this is with a conservative approach to both pedals (yes, an auto).

With 1700 miles on the odometer, I get 32-39 dash MPG with 50/50 city/highway driving (with A/C). It should have no problem exceeding 40 MPG highway after 10k miles with synthetic fluid.
I wonder if EPA is going to go after the rated engine HP/TQ next

That's good to know since I've been getting way below the average mpg in town. When I drove my car home from the dealership (42 miles from home), which was 98% highway miles @65 mph, I got 41.2 mpg. Since then I've only been driving around town and getting 22 mpg @ an average 28 mph. I knew I'd get lower gas mileage driving around town, but 22 mpg is way below the stated sticker average of 30 mpg.

Wow, this news is interesting. The mileage claim was the major reason we bought the Accent. Its sad really.

Similarly, when we bought our 2002 Santa Fe, Hyundai came clean and had to compensate buyers since they overstated the the engine HP in the owners manual. We were offered another 10K / 1 year of bumper-to-bumper warranty as compensation at that time. The Santa Fe has been trouble-free and still a good car.

Has anyone tried to register their vehicle at the website? I read the .PDF instructions and verified my vehicle qualifies but I could not find the link for registration...am I missing it or is it yet to be posted?

Yes, from what I understand they have to verify the current odometer reading.
