Default Are manuals rare? manual transmission discussion

I was looking for a manual accent around my area and there is only 1 out of 68 cars in a 200mile radius that was manual, are they that rare?

Also I read some reviews that said the manual is not that good because it shifts into a low powerband? do you guys notice this?

I haven't had any complaints about the power in my manual. The problem is the ECO mode asking you to shift too early in order to keep revs down and save gas. I noticed that the first time when shifting from 2nd to 3rd before I figured out how to turn ECO off. On the 2-3 shift at 2000 rpm, the ratio of 3rd makes the gear so long that it feels bogged down if you shift too low into it. Since turning ECO off, I usually shift at around 2800 to 3200 rpm and feel no bogging down in the engine.

As for manuals being rare, yes they are. And not just for the Accent, but the Veloster and the Elantra, too. I got lucky that the dealership I went to happened to have the one in stock, and in a color I loved. The one thing I wish it had was keyless entry, but other than that, it's got everything I need.

I didn't get colour choice in the purchase of my new manual GL. It was the only one the dealer could get for me. Wouldn't have been my first choice, but now really enjoy the "Green Apple" colour. I was at the dealer today to pick up my paint pen and he was telling me he couldn't even get another manual for another customer.
Yup turned off the Eco option in the same shift sequence!

Dang, its just cause people are to lazy to drive stick?
I am planning to buy the car next year or a little bit more, so by them the prices should fall a bit and maybe I'll be able to get a used manual, I would prefer silver or black, if not then blue
I dont mind driving half way across the country for one neither

Rare indeed. I am in NYC n after extensive research was able to trace 2 cars out in long island, actually in stock not "in transit" as many local dealerships kept saying. Got very lucky one of them was exactly what I was looking for. Black w gray interior SE manual. The Eco mode is enabled by default. I disabled it after one day of having the car. Big difference in the way the car responds overall. Still economical, just watch rpm when shifting and you should be ok. Love love the feel of cruising in 6th gear!

I was originally looking for a Black GS with the dark interior with a manual transmission. When I talked to the sales manager he said the dealer normally avoids manual transmission cars and they rarely every get one in.. After walking the lot and noticing every Accent, Veloster and Elanta was an auto I gave up. Even all the Genesis Coups they had where auto. So I bought my Black GS with the automatic and I still love the car and in the end it was probably the better buy since now the car will be easier to sell down the road.

Manuals are extremely rare in the Rocky Mountain region (USA). I had to go to Missouri to get my manual SE. My local dealer says that I have the only one that he's seen (in a 2012 Accent). The Eco indicator for manuals is just a nag message that can easily be turned off. The gear ratio between 2nd and 3rd is long, so shifting at 2000 rpm is too soon. However, I like the closer ratios in the upper gears for driving in the mountains.

I was not going to settle for an automatic. It took me about 6 months to find the SE with manual trans.

Sad to hear but hey whoever wanted a manual, got a manual most of the time. So I will hope for that.
Will check craigslist in other states for sure

Manuals are extremely rare. My dealership gets less than 10 per year of all Hyundai models combined!! It took me 6 months of putting my blue SE stick on the preference list before Hyundai actually allocated it to us.
