The new Accent test pilot

I took the bus trip up to Edmonton this morning and it went fine,arrival at the south end stop was right on schedule.I made my way through the hotel to the front and did not see anyone waiting for me.Just as I pull out my cell to call the dealership the salesman rolls into the lot and asks me if I am well...me...+1 for punctuality.....we ride to the dealership and he shows me my new car.It was in the shop as it was detailed the day before and he did not want it to get rained on.He immediatly pointed out the block heater cord in the front grill and then the mud-guards to which he said were installed at no extra charge and that rubber floor mats were thrown in as well(more on this later)Back we go into the showroom and he locates a fellow from the finance department,sadly the guy went through the song & dance about extended warranties/paint protection/fabric protection/undercoating packages and after a couple minutes I cut him short and stated that I was not interested in anything that would increase the price of the car and also that I would be most likely be getting a new one in 5 years time as I clock so much milage.This gave him pause for thought and we quickly got onto the paperwork,lots of initials & signatures.Soon enough all of that was taken care of and the salesman is paged to the front desk for the final walk-through,he asked if I wanted a licence plate frame as he attached my plate and I politely declined it.We chatted for a bit and he answered my only question....which was if I needed warranty work done that I could take it to a local dealership and the work would get done with no problems and he assured me that was the case.He opened the shop overhead door and I drove out and parked in the lot to dial the car in with regards to seat adjustments/mirrors/tilt steering....though I still have to make minor tweaks here and there.

The drive out of the city was quick enough with only minor paving work going on at the very edge of the city.Soon enough I was outside Edmonton and in 6th gear rolling along at 120 KM's.All told I am very impressed with the car,the power windows leap up like frogs in a dynamite pond.The handling is crisp and responsive the transmission shifts so nicely and with a short throw of the stick though that 6th gear is a bit wierd and I dont like the "eco-shift" indicator on the dash display but it is a suggestive doodad that I can ignore so no big deal.

More about the mud-guards these are most definatly installed at the factory as is the block heater and the laser etching/anti theft package as I got ALL 3....I noticed the little sticker on the passenger side window 5 minutes after I was behind the wheel and when I got home and popped the hatch I saw another sticker on the underside of the hatch which was a theft deterrent indicator.....I also saw that I had brand new packaged fabric floor mats in the back as well as a trunk lip protector.

The block heater/mud-guards/laser etching are definatly NOT dealership installed,they are factory installed and the dealerships use these as a method of up-charging to the consumer.I went to 2 dealerships in Calgary and was told that they were mandatory fees that could not be waived.Thankfully I called a dealership in Edmonton that actually wanted to sell me the car I wanted at the advertised MSRP price on the Hyundai Canada website.I spent 1 day of my weekend getting my new car in a city 270 kilometers away because the local dealerships did not respect me as a consumer.Normally I would have played a round of golf today but I was more than happy to save $1600 on my new car.

As for the car....I LOVE IT...my job will be fun again starting tomorrow at 5:30 am

Congrats & welcome to Accent ownership. Even if you don't pull the back seats out,I'd suggest removing the the rear seat headrests for better visibility & room w/seats folded.

you'll love that hatch.. mine's flawless im loving every second im driving it and everytime i park my car, i always turn around and look at my car and at the back of my head " **** thats a sexy hatch right there.."

I have not been on the forum for some time as I got a virus warning on my email but I just had to post this.
I got rear ended by a dodge dakota last week and my
Accent is toast(in the opinion of 2 bodyshops anyway).
In just over 1 year I clocked 78,000 KM's and all
were trouble free though I did get a trouble light
on the dash light up a couple times.This was due to
a possibly dodgy knock sensor.

I am now dealing with the insurance company to
replace my brand new car as well as physical
discomfort.Due to the lack of co-operative
sales people in Calgary and in Edmonton I
am forced to switch badges to Kia and get the
exact same car but under a different badge.

I really liked the Accent.It was fun to drive and it
got the job done work wise.Such a shame that it
got taken out by a gal who was not paying attention.

If anyone is local and is interested I have a set of
flashy aftermarket alloy rims to sell as I run 2 sets of tires.

Can you post the sleeper setup? I plan to do some long distance trip with minimal lodging expense.
