OK.. that's it.

1. The "Spectre" air filter was the thing causing the obnoxious whistle. It's the same one that Wylldshark used.

2. I tried 2 configurations... A. 2.5"-3" boot, vacuum adapter, 6" straight pipe, cone filter, and B. 2.5"-3" boot, 5" straight pipe drilled and epoxy breather adapter, cone filter.

After a day of highway and back roads... I'm just annoyed with it. The noise actually caused me to WANT to drive under load so I could hear it... when I was driving rationally I didn't see much more of a MPG improvement than I initially thought. It actually stayed in the 10-19 range in all gears under acceleration, and 20-32 range otherwise unless I was in 5th or 6th cruising.

After re-installing the stock airbox and filter... there's not much difference at all. I'm just going to stick it out and wait for a K&N... If the CAI performed a miracle, I could deal with the noise... but it seemed to just rub me the wrong way.

Now... if there is a cat-back exhaust out there soon, THAT is something I wouldn't mind a little extra rhasp out of.

Thank you Dolph for your DIY tutorial found here Installing an SRI on 2012 Accent

it took me about good 30 minutes, mostly trying to attach the cone filter properly.

as this is my first SRI, i was wondering if i could ask some questions.

me too, I have a whistling sound. is this from a damaged/improperly installed Spectre cone filter? should i replace it?

Also, i read somewhere that this is a disposable filter, what intervals should i replace them?

*echomatics, do you hear any whistling sounds on your AEM dryflow non oil filter system? would you mind sharing your part number as well? TIA

When i took off the air filter holder, i noticed my car is missing something from Dolphs picture. may i ask what is that circled in pic?

i just also got my first oil change at the dealer (only cuz first oil change was free and i was also inquiring about my ECU update). They over-filled it by about an inch from the full mark as i've been reading!!!! so i had them fix it right away.

but ever since the oil change yesterday, SRI on yesterday, i'm noticing not a MPG increase, but mine has decreased a bit. is it because of my installation method? from possible leaks and such?

TIA guys i love this forum!

I remember reading his post and noticing that the thing he circled wasn't in my car either. I think it has something to do with the Canadian models because my US Accent doesn't have one and neither does my friend's GLS sedan.

He has an auto trans....

I have an insys Sri with a k&n filter have the same whistle..however I notice an increase in mpg and a small butt dyno increase. As for the whisle I get ..it only happens when the throttle plate is at a certain postion ...and its very brief. it doesn't bother me much...I think its just the nature of the beast.

Looks good!
That sound is normal and not a issue at all. Its the air intake throttle plate. At certain angles as the air flows over it you will hear that whistle. I LOVE that sound, almost like a turbo. Also in that picture its a AT car, I am guessing you have a manual? That part has become a issue for me as I am working on a air box and it gets in the way. Not sure what it is for....
