Default Just registered for an autocross, lol

I decided I'm going to make a go of it. Should only be mildly embarrassing, but what the heck, it should still be fun. Previous cars I've owned have been a GTI with lots of mods, Ion Redline with lots of mods, and and Evo VIII with lots of mods. Should be quite the show running a bone stock Elantra

Agreed but I expect you will be modding the suspension??? Its not that much for shocks and a sway bar but your class will change, right???

You've just made one of the best decisions you could make as a driver.

I've got about 8 years + of autocrossing under my belt. Went from my very humble nOOb beginnings, to a trophy and competing in a purpose-built car battling for FTD (fastest time of day). Never did get it but came close a few times.

Autocross taught me SO MUCH about driving and about how to handle a vehicle at the limits. I've lost count of the number of times I've avoided accidents by simply reacting based on autocross experience, rather than just panicking and hammering on the brakes.

A little advice for a beginner: Leave your car stock and don't even think about mods until you have at least one season under your belt. The biggest improvement that can be made, by far, in this sport is the nut behind the wheel. You wouldn't believe the number of times I've seen this 70 year old guy with countless seasons under his belt, smoke young drivers in "modified" cars with his bone stock 2003 corolla on street all-seasons and does it effortlessly.

When you're ready for mods, start with suspension/brakes/tires before anything else! Power DOES NOT = faster lap times in autocross. Not unless you can effectively use that power. You can go a very long way on the stock power of the Elantra with suspension/tires/brakes.

Ask questions and ride along with experienced drivers and take note of their lines/techniques etc. You can never learn enough. Take the time to marshal out on the course and watch from a different perspective.

Be smooth and try not to under-steer. Even though the car may be prone to it, you can prevent it. If the front tires start scrubbing, don't turn the wheel any harder (I see noobs do that a lot ) just ride it out.

I could go on and on for hours, so I'll stop there.

The more import thing, above all: just HAVE FUN!!!!!

This is the cheapest and most fun form of motorsport. Try not to kill your car and just have fun!

Well.....here's the story: My physical trainer just got a Mini S and I spent all week trying to get her to enter to no avail. Then I went to the site this morning and saw this. I figure if an a-hole can enter an Alero, then I might as well field an Elantra

So far its Me vs Todd, Ha!

I'm just going for not being the slowest of the day

In autocross, it doesn't matter what you drive.

I've seen a mid-80's Volvo 240 with 110hp smoke lot's of cars that *should* be much faster. The guy was a very skilled driver.

Fun!

I was going to register one for 30th in Carolina Motorsports Park but they put me in some ridiculously modified class because I put pretty rotors (slotted) -_- so I decided not to, but if anyone will take me in Novice or G Stock I will definitely want to.

If you have slalom, enjoy it and tell me how the car slides at limits. I need to do that with my car but never got the chance.

I'm putting a crisp, brand new dollar bill on "Steve," and the "Car Wonder!" Good luck! Let us know how you like it! Start waxing that helmet; in the event you don't come in first, you'll at least look good at the finish!

And if you do win, everyone and their brother that owns an Elantra is gonna be looking for a local autocross to enter. Garages look good with trophies on the shelf. Even the one you got in the first grade at the Spelling Bee!
