Default Uncomfortable Seats

I'm just curious, has anyone else noted that their seats are quite uncomfortable after more than 45 minutes or so in the car? My seats offer literally zero back support and I'm always on long drives.

By the end of a long journey my lower back is killing me and I've been grumpy for half the trip. These seats are uncomfortable to the point where I'm considering trading the car at the end of the year. Thoughts?

Thanks

Search "seats." You will find some "illustrative" comments from other owners "feeling your pain," as well as a few viable (hopefully) solutions.

Long trips, such as an upcoming Oklahoma-Virgina round tripper will have me squirming. After about 300-400 miles, I'm fidgety and restless, regardless of quality brand of car or other mode of transportation, eg airplanes. Hate sitting for extended periods. Just hate it!

Hah okay, I've searched google previously on this issue and only came up with a few threads on other forums. I'll take a look.

We have the GLS trim with cloth seats. I find them to be fine. I'm 6'3" and 210 lbs. and we just went on a 350 mile trip this weekend. No problems or complaints.

One reason we bought the Elantra over the new Nissan Sentra SR is because the seats in those were like sitting on a concrete bench.

A couple of us have complained about pinchy side bolsters cutting off the blood flow in our legs. Back support isn't great either.

It might help to adopt a nerdy driving posture (ie: seatback upright with the base flat) so you can properly support yourself with your abdominal muscles. People often seek comfort by reclining the seat and tipping the base backward, but in my experience this actually makes things worse.

I don't have any particular problem with my seats, even on long trips of 160 miles or so, and I was able to find a comfortable position fairly quickly after I bought the car last fall. That said, I do miss the seats from my 01 Elantra! Adjustments included 3 position lumbar support, and the ability to raise/lower the seat height for either the front or rear of the seat, independently. Of course, a comfortable seat for one may be a park bench for another. Everybody's different.

not quite as comfortable as my 2003 Alti but it is a smaller car so I can't say I expected it to be better :/

now the best Budget priced seats for a long trip are in the cube. its like sitting on a couch for 2 hours. they are really soft and wide which is great if your human sized. (5'1-6'2)
most cars have too much bolstering on the sides or are too narrow for anything but a small woman.. why I don't know. I want my seat to hold me not make me bulge over the sides.... Focus/Dart/Juke looking at you! im not a big person either 5'10 180Lbs and those cars make me feel too big.
the elantra gets a 8.5/10 for comfort. which ain't bad....

After three or four hours driving anything, my bottom falls asleep and my left leg goes numb. So I'm not sure the fault is necessarily with the Elantra's seat.

Although I personally would prefer more lumbar support and perhaps better side bolstering.

That said, I found the Elantra's driving position better than some of its competitors. I felt much more cramped behind the wheel of both the Focus and the Forte...and the Forte SX I drove had "leather" seats that felt, well...one online review of the Forte I saw likened the seat material thusly: "Kia apparently figured out how to skin a plastic cow." And to me the "padding" beneath the Kia's pleather felt like plywood.

But, as with everything else auto-related: YMMV.

Consider some aftermarket seat covers with built in lumbar support. That's the route I took and am happy with the result.
