Default Connecting iPod Touch 5 in 2012 Elantra

I have a 2012 Elantra that came with a Hyundai iPod cable. I recently bought the iPod Touch 5 and want to be able to connect it using the AUX and USB cable so that the songs/artists are displayed on the screen and so that I can use the steering wheel to control the iPod. I purchased an Apple lighting to 30 pin adapter to connect the new iPod to the old Hyundai cable, but I can't get the iPod Touch 5 to work using it; the AUX screen is displayed when I plug it in and the iPod won't play through the speakers. Is there anyway to fix this?

Unfortunately this appears to be a shoot off of Hyundai's tremendously stupid connection implementation. I have to connect my android device via Bluetooth and be content with that. The skip, pause, etc... works perfectly fine. It does not show the name of the song though. I have a cigarette lighter adapter to charge my devices (it's 2 amp so it's better than the native connection anyways).

With the fact that Apple has chosen to not license the lightning adapter there isn't even the chance Hyundai will make a compatible adapter.
Next time around I hope the software engineer that designed this connection interface actually thinks about what they are doing.

You don't need to connect your iPod using the AUX or USB cable. Bluetooth is the best. I personally connect my iPod touch to my car via Bluetooth. It's really easy and convenience. You can see the songs/ artists/ information of the songs on the screen and easily control them by using the steering wheel buttons. Go wireless!

How do you get it to display the songs/artists via bluetooth? Mine doesn't show this information when I connect via bluetooth.

It's weird. It's automatic so I don't need to do anything.

OP has a 2012. Kevinvu, you have a 2013, the later generation of which comes with the new Audio 3.0. It's a completely different head unit. I have the same head unit as the OP and you cannot control the songs or see metadata (artist, song, album, etc) with BT. You can only control the volume.

Thanks for teaching me something today! I had no idea that the 2012 and 2013 had different audio setups in the head unit, although I did know that they changed some of the controls (looks-wise) for the 2013.

Yep! And here is where it gets EVEN hairier ... the Audio 3.0 change is a mid-cycle refresh. There are 2013s with my head unit, and then 2013s with the NEW one. All depends on when yours was built!
