Default Spare Tire Question: Which Rim?

I have seen a few posts about this in the forums about this but I would just like some certain confirmation. I would like to know what rims from which cars can I use beside the obvious 2011 Elantra?

Here is the thing. I am going to go down to the junkyard to get a steel rim and throw a tire on it for the spare. Now my Elantra has the 16" wheels. Which options do I have? I don't want to pick out one and then further down the road get a flat and go to change it when it does not fit either becouse of offset or backspacing.

Dealer wanted $270 for the spare. I would much rather spend the $50 on a rim and throw a used tire on it.

The bolt pattern is 5x114.3. The offset is 45 if I recall correctly. You could always go on ebay and buy the elantra spare kit which is around $100 which includes the jack.

I'm baffled why the kits don't come with the tire. Why is that?

Here's the 'kit" from a dealer for less than $120 delivered.

That's a great question. I think I saw one offered WITH that little donut tire. Don't remember where, and the price was about 60-70 bucks additional.

In Canada we get the spare and the advertised 40 mph is the same.

Hyundai was trying to compensate for the wider waistbands of the U.S. driver. We have an overweight epidemic down here. You Canadians are still skinny! That 100 less pounds in one trunk compensates for the 100 more pounds in the other trunk!

Ok thanks everyone. Tried calling junkyard (medford auto wreckers - One of the biggest in the country) and they had no Elantra rims. I am probably going to use ebay. Thanks again.

hahaha you made me laugh my friend. I so love your humor I'm 5' 11'' and I weight 179 pounds and I wear 32 size jeans, I thought I was fat lol but this obese epidemic is catching on us too....sadly we have all the american fast food chains here too....KFC: ''it's finger licking good'' seriously my secret: I rarely eat at restaurants, I eat desserts only on occasions and I take walks with my dog and I do body building in my basement.

Quick question. Does it matter that the spare is 15" and my tires are 16"? Should I get a 16" spare?

It doesn't matter as the spare is only temporary. Keeps weight and cost down by going 15"
