I noticed a few of you are from Southern California and was wondering what dealership you bought from and how was the experience.
It looks like I might be heading out this weekend to buy my new Elantra. I will probably use TrueCar.com's price as a starting point with any dealership I go to. Right now, TrueCar has a 2013 GLS with Preferred package for $18,035. I figured I will email some internet departments today to get some prices as well. The last new car I bought, I went through Cars Direct which was a really good experience, but there offered price is higher than TrueCar right now. Thanks in advance. |

The problem is that Elantras are selling and selling fast, so there is no incentive for them to come off the price. You can go to Hyundai's site and build a car, then it'll find the closest dealership to you and list the MSRP. Compare that to the online price of the dealership. My Limited was priced at $26870 and I got them down to $24460 because I saw a similar Limited on their site for the same price. Which is the same price I could have gotten at the first dealership I went to, but I got a lot of extras like tint, autodim rearview mirror, chrome body accent strip, carpet floormats. The best tactic I used going to the dealership was play dumb and not interested. If you can, walk around the lot looking at cars, Sonatas and Accents and let them lead you to the Elantra by saying you want something bigger or less expensive depending one which car you are at. Slowly work your way to the price you want. If they won't come down lower off the car, start working on getting a little more on trade in. Don't go overboard, go just enough to where you will walk out. Go to the one that will offer you the best deal, but don't try to price match them against each other. |

Hey LBC, I'm familiar with two dealerships, I bought my Hyundai at one, my brother bought his at another.
I purchased mine at WIN in El Monte, My brother at Glendora Hyundai. From our experience, those two were pretty much on par with each other on price and both were a pleasure to deal with. That being said, I advise everyone to build the car you want on the Hyundai website, submit it to your area dealerships(you can select something like 4 or 5) and the internet department will respond with their price for that model. Do your negotiating using these numbers they send you(be sure to find out if these are "out the door prices" and even get it in writing if you can) use your best offer to counter offer each of those dealers. In my case, I had other dealerships saying, "we can't match that price, you have a good deal there". Keep in mind I paid cash, no financing so that may have left them next to nothing on profit. I went to Puente Hills Hyundai and the guys were shysters. I'd avoid that place if I were buying another Hyundai myself.

Glendora Hyundai came back with a pretty solid offer on the car I'm looking for. I'm just waiting to hear back from Corona. Hopefully on Sunday I am in my new car. |

Yes, I did pretty much what he did as far as negotiating goes. I emailed every dealership I could asking for an out the door price on the specific Elantra I wanted. Of the ones that responded, I bounced the quotes between all of them and let them beat each other, Glendora won. In and out in under an hour. I'm acutally going there tomorrow for my free oil change. They give you free oil changes for 5 years I believe it is. They essentially give you every "other" one free (every 7500 miles), which technically is all you need if you go easy on the pedal lol. I replaced my air and cabin filters earlier today, so i'm good to go. |
