Default New 2013 cars required to have backup camera?

I just heard this, my 2013 Elantra doesn't have one, was it suppose to have one?
I did a search on the net and it says that 40% of all 2013 cars were to get one, how do I find out if I should of gotten one?

I've seen some articles about car manufacturers POSSIBLY being required to have backup cameras, but nothing is set in stone yet. However, more and more car makers are making them standard equipment, even on base trims. I wouldn't be surprised if the next generation Elantra came with one standard.

^^
Agree, although the "standard" parts will be reflected in the "standard" price.

I might be wrong , but I believe the 2013 Civic has a back up camera standard across all trims .

The government is working on possible regulations regarding this.

That's about as "well said" as it can be done. I love it when the dealer says something like, "...and this feature comes at no extra charge." Really?

My dad once told an appliance salesman he didn't want the free icemaker due to their notoriety for breaking. Salesman said they'd knock off $50 on the fridge. Dad says, "Well, it's not free then, is it?"

Something to think about!

I think this will keep people from being run over but will probably lead to bigger fender-benders when people only look at the camera screen and crank the wheel.....into a concrete post or another car. I'll admit I'm guilty of just looking at the screen but I usually catch myself and check 'normally' before proceeding.

Is this possible? Doesn't the camera do the job? I opted out of the NAV add-on. Just didn't feel it fit my needs.

I've been teaching myself to look behind the car for various obstacles if I'm planning on backing up...BEFORE I get into the car. Don't always remember, but I try.

It gives you a fairly narrow field of view. See here....if there's a concrete column (or anything else for that matter) around your rear quarter panel, you won't see it until you feel it.
