Default When/If To Start Using Synthetic Oil

I just had my first oil change at 5700kms it was free so I figured I'd use it, I want to run synthetic though as I've heard it's longer lasting and general consensus is its just good for your car! Has anyone switched or planning on switching to synthetic oil, if so how many Kim's/miles? Can I switch to synthetic on my 1200km oil change (2nd) without any issues now and/or in the future, as well will I still have to stick to the 6000km oil changes or can I go longer on synthetic and not have a conflict with my warranty?

DVC 10" AB Sub w/JL 500.1 amp
Chrome CAI w/K&N Cone Filter, blue LEDs as interior accents,
Back Up Cam, other little odds & ends
Lot's more on my list!

I take it you meant 12,000kms for the second oil change? Which is a perfect time to switch to synthetic as the engine is fully broken in. You can extend your oil changes after switching. My previous vehicle I was using synthetic oil and was changing it at 10,000kms with filter changes at every 5,000km.

Yeah sorry 12,000kms, that's nice to know I can change to synthetic and go longer between changes. As well as being better to use and prolong my engines life, I have had my car since 3rd week of June and just did my 1st service at 5700kms last Monday so 3rd week of November I can honestly say I don't drive a lot like 1000kms/month maybe!lol

Peterborough Ontario?

I'd use synthetic as soon as you're paying for the oil changes, if you plan to keep the car until the wheels fall off. If you're a frequent trader, however, stick to conventional and save some money.

Synthetic flows much better at cold temps, which extends engine life for long-term owners. But it makes little discernible difference for those who trade every 4-5 years, or who live in warmer climates.

First oil change with synthetic around 2 months/2500 miles. Been running it since. Always DIY my oil change.

I can't believe Hyundai actually will actually pay for oil changes at 3000 miles. The 3k mile oil change interval is outdated. I would make people wait until the 7500 mile service interval which is really a minimum oil change interval w/ today's oils and gas formulations. Re. the guy who changes his filter twice as often, it would be more reasonable to do it the other way around but really just do it when you change your oil. There is no reason to do that. With synthetic you can change it once a year or 15k miles.Doing these things at those intervals is a waste of money and resources.

Really... Well, that's your own opinion, there's a reason behind it. Do what you like, I'll stick to what works for me. BTW, waste of money and resources would be changing synthetic oil at 5,000kms.

Well Hyundai specifies that you change the oil every 6,000km for their warranty.

My car's due for her first oil change in a few weeks, I'm going to put synthetic in it as I can already feel the engine not liking the cold-starts as much due to winter climates settling in. Going to get it done at Costco since they charge only $50 for a synthetic oil change.

Yes Peterborough, Ontario your neighbour well 2-2.5h away neighbour. Looks like the snows starting now, however I'm positive it's not going to last that long I guess we'll see. Drive safe up there in Ottawa area some crazy ass drivers their, actually Ontario is full of people who should've never gotten there licence!

My dealer was running a promotion for free lifetime oil changes every 3,750 miles. Of course, provided the OEM "maintenance schedule" was followed. I suppose on most cars, this provides excellent revenue for tire rotations, balances, air filter and cabin filter changes.

I beat 'em to their game by having those items done by me or an outside tire store. My lifetime wheel balance came to $34.00 with free rotations. My dealer charges about $100 to balance and rotate the tires.

Filter changes can run upwards of $75 for both, installed. I can buy both for about $20. Five minute install.

Folks, learn to do some of these things yourself. It's satisfying and cost saving!
