Default Hi Everyone! Could use some help.

Hello all,

After quite a bit of research my wife and I decided to buy two elantras. I bought a gt and am enjoying it and she bought the gls manual sedan but unfortunately we have been having serious issues with the dealership concerning her car. It seems as though her Elantra was not the same one we test drove. The model we test drove had a voice activated radio (as my gt does), but the model they delivered doesn't.

Long and short we didn't find out until after we took the two hour drive home that there were are two versions of Elantra sedans - one version manufactured prior to August and another after. Naturally we are angry that the dealer never informed us of this. They claim they didn't know.

So I am asking for some help. Does anyone here know what, if any, are the differences between the two revisions? I'm hoping it's simply limited to the radio and they can replace it. If not I will have to bring it back and demand a swap.

Thanks for any information you can provide or for any direction where I can find out.

I am planning on calling Hyundai Canada in the morning either way.

That is why you should always fully look over the car before taking final delivery. Unfortunately for you the ball is in their court.

I'm wishing the best for you! I fear that nothing short of an attorney will help once you have taken delivery and driven the car off the lot. Not what you wanted to hear, I'm certain.

You can try talking to the dealer & Hyundai Canada. I wish you nothing but success.

Hi all thanks for the replies.

I didn't go into all the details because it's actually been a 2 day nightmare that started at the lot. It's not a simple case of we picked up the cars and went home. Since I am already pursuing my legal options I am not comfortable talking about the full situation just yet.

I was just hoping to get some more information about the differences in the two versions of the 2013 Elantra sedans.

Thanks anyhow everyone. I sincerely hope I get a nice resolution and hope to be on these boards a lot more in the near future.

So, are you saying that an Elantra GLS now doesn't come with voice activation? That'd be weird, unless she received an Elantra L but you clearly said GLS...

In a nutshell we weren't even aware that there were two models of the 2013 Elantra GLS - one made prior to August and one after. We test drove a model that had the voice activated radio and just thought that was it. What was delivered was the older revision. My wife's voice activated bluetooth worked but she didn't realize that she couldn't use voice activation for other features such as changing stations. She's not technical in the least and we assumed it was working. It was only on the road home did we realize there was a problem.

If there are two different versions of a 2013 Elantra GLS for sale, it is the dealer's responsibility to inform the buyer as such. As someone who does not work for Hyundai I would have no clue that two variations of the same car exist. When I order a new car it is with the intention of having the most recent additions to the car - not something months old - especially when we weren't informed.

It is very difficult to see on the surface that the radio is different from what we test drove over three weeks ago. In a nutshell the dealer sold us old stock hoping we wouldn't notice. Hopefully the whole issue can be resolved by swapping out the old radio for the new one. However I am now concerned there are other differences that we should be aware of.

I wish I could help but I just don't understand all the little subtle differences and nuances between the US & Canadian model offerings. Did the GLS that you test drove have Nav? I didn't know the radio channels could be changed via voice command.

There's obviously a lot I have yet to learn about all the model differences.

This is news to me regarding the voice command. Sucks I missed out on that option as I ordered mine the first week of July. But I can live without it. The Nav is not an option on the GLS.

When making your purchase were you clear as to what options you wanted. Personally I would test drive and scrutinize the actual car I plan to purchase.
