You hate that...why?? I would love to have that feature. The problem on new cars is that the dash board light is so bright that people forget to turn their lights on and they drive at night with only their DRL and no tail lights on like idiots thinking their light are on. Pretty dangerous if you ask me... The only car I've had with this feature was my 1990 Pontiac Bonneville SSE and I loved it.

Got pretty dark and rainy today and saw some folks driving around without lights on.

2012 Elantra GLS w/ Preferred Package

We bought our '12 GLS on March 13. About three weeks later they were selling '13 models. I kick myself for not knowing the new model was coming. We would have gotten heated seats with the Preferred Package.
Has anyone mentioned a mid cycle styling freshening? I don't think there has been any change since the '11 so I expect minor tweaks for the '14. As for wish list I'm sure it won't happen until the redesign but the dash vents have to be moved up. They moved them up in the GT but I doubt they will do it for the sedan until the next generation debuts. |

I'm hoping for LED tail lights for the 2014 MY and maybe some cooled/ventilated seats. |

That's exactly my point. If all cars would be equipped with auto lights that turns on as soon as it's dark enough (dusk/night) then DRL would do the job they are supposed to do (mainly make vehicles more visible) during the day and no one would be driving with no taillights on when it's dark.

I'm wondering why it's like that now, my previous car, a 2007, did not have illuminated dash during the day. I was surprised in the Elantra, no need to waste the life span of the bulbs during the day.

So in the Corolla, the light-stack column is set up as this. First position is all lights off (except for DRL, those are always on). Rotate once to second position to turn on dash lights and headlights. Rotate twice to third position to turn on high beams. My wife drives a 2010 Honda Civic, the light controls are very different. First position is all lights off except DRL. Rotate once to second position to turn on the dash lights only. Rotate twice to third position to turn on headlights. Push column forward to turn on high beams. So the first couple of times I drove my wife's Civic, I was really confused. The worst part is, the Civic has an indicator on the dash to let you know if the headlights are on except the symbol they used is IDENTICAL to the high-beam symbol in my Toyota. When I drove my wife's Civic, I would turn the light switch to the second position thinking the headlights are also turned on and drive without the headlights at night like an idiot because I always assumed the third position was the high beams! Also the bulbs in my Corolla were terribly old and I never replaced them so they were ridiculously dim, and the DRL's in my wife's Civic were as bright as my Corolla's regular headlights. It was an all-around fail on my part. |
