Default Engine clicking/rattling/fan noise

So i'm only a week and a half into owning my Elantra, 800km on it and today when i started the engine i noticed a clicking/rattling sound, like the noise when someone sticks a piece of paper into a fan. Anyway it's quite minimal and you could hear it louder when you accelerate. I never noticed it before, even when i test drove the vehicle. Someone please tell me i'm trippin out...

Both the air intake and timing chain are a little noisy on this car. It's possible the noise you are hearing is normal as its a bit of a metallic click. I kind of think it's a cool noise like a purr.

At this point I say drive and listen but don't go nuts. Metal grinding, clacking, banging, knocking are not normal sounds.

That metallic click bugs the crap out of me, it sounds like the bottom end is letting go.

If you believe the sound was not there before and not there when you test drove the car then you should take it to the dealer to have it checked out if only for your peace of mind. That's what a warranty is for. With the car running pop the hood and see if you can identify where the sound might be coming from. You could also ask the dealer to start other new identical cars on the lot for comparison. Peculiar engine sounds can be normal or they can be early warning signs, especially new sounds. Chances are it's a normal characteristic of the engine in this car but if you have even the slightest concern take the car in to have it checked.
