For Canadian Hyundai owners, please find link to Hyundai site detailing reimbursement procedures.

After 40,000KM of driving I am averaging 7.2L/100KM . My best tank is 6.2L/100KM and my worst tank is 8.8L/100KM . When the temps are colder and I have my winter tires on I average around 7.9L to 8.3L per 100KM. From about May through October my mileage drastically improves. For instance, every single tank from during the summer I averaged under 7L/100KM.

Overall I am happy with my mileage although I DID expect better. It would be nice to average around 6.5L/100KM

I am likely driving the Lexus faster since it just accelerates much faster even at minimal pressure on the gas.
I do agree, have plans to get the IS F ???? love that car but very expensive.

My main question is, how did Hyundai get away with the improper MPG test results? The EPA tests a portion of all vehicles themselves, to check the claims of the auto makers' lab results. I currently have a Sonata, and am considering a Santa Fe Sport 2.0T in the future. They dialed down the claim on the Sport by like 3MP, a big difference. That totally affects my buying decision.

Also with my turbo Sonata and 17" winter sport tires, I can get the same or better MPG numbers than you guys are reporting with your 138HP Elantras. Surprising, considering the 274HP and added weight. I get 26 or so just in regular driving and easily get over 30 on trips, unless I have my sticky 18" summer tires on the car.

It just never ceases to amaze me how people seemingly ignore the litte "*" after the 40mpg claim stating that your actual may vary and feel like they are entitled to it. I think these are the same people who buy food that has the big notice on the front that says "Fat Free" and ignore the back side where it shows the enormous amount of carbs, calories and sodium in relation. Then they scratch their head and wonder why they haven't lost weight eating a fat free product. Every company in every industry promotes their strong point in your face and leaves the rest for you to educate yourself. And those that don't just do it in the end with a fast talking lawyer that covers the corporate arse with a big blanket. New seeclear, removes redeye in seconds (may cause reduced hearing, bad breath, loss of hair, severe vomitting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, rectal itching and tooth decay). If that were as up front as the main focus most people wopuld be like screw it, I'll live with redeye.

Earlier on someone posted a link to a blog about how it happened and those of you that have skipped right over some of the info in this thread should go back and give it a read. No one on the insdie of this investigation seems ot think it was intentional and once the EPA starts to double check everyones testing procedure and results on high claim cars I think all lawsuits will come to a screeching hault because everyone will be found guilty of similar misinterprtations of the guidelines.

Rant of the day

Unfortunately there will always be humourless anti-capitalists who take headlines literally, and who refuse to read the fine print, for no other reason than to wage war on the big corporations they so despise.
