That one doesn't peel but you need to brush it and it sheds once a year.

I wonder if that cover has ever caused any accidents. I mean ... you can't even see the gauges. Is that a legit excuse out of a ticket?

Come on! Do you really think a driver with that kind of steering wheel would actually drive too fast?

I just got my wheel recently "repaired" an it's been almost a month and it's already fading!! It's getting cold down here so I've been using gloves and still it manages to fade out.. It looks as if they just sprayed over my "pleather" with plastidip hahaha

I had mines replaced a few weeks ago and the replacement is definitely the same type of material as the original. I was hoping for the smooth leather some of you were getting so I'm a little disappointed. Oh well, when it peels again I'll just take it back for another replacement.

When I took my car in initially to have the wheel looked at, I mentioned to the service rep that my shifter knob was peeling ever so slightly on the smooth black plastic area on the top, just inside the chrome trim. It looked like a really thin clear plastic covers that part. When I went to pick up my car after the steering wheel replacement, I noticed they replaced my shifter knob too.

Default Elantra peeling steering wheel

I do not know why hyundai has not recalled these steering wheels and sent out notices to the consumers when it is a known defect and then to make the cutomer feel like its something they have done to cause the problem is offensive ........ Here is the number for the government agency which controls recalls 888-327-4236 please everyone call and make a complaint so the problem can get fixed the right way instead of us owners being treated like we are the problem ......... I spent alot of money to buy the Elantra limited and bought it because of the gas mileage and warranty and both are giving me problems the gas mileage isnt what they said Im lucky to get 32 miles per gallon freeway no matter how hard I try!

Welcome! Sorry you're not satisfied with your Elantra thus far.

I've got about 7100 miles and my steering wheel is fine. Maybe because it's not a "safety" issue but more cosmetic, they don't deem a recall necessary?

Myself and several other members can get 40+ highway. What is your driving style? If I drive 65, I easily do 42 - 43 average on the highway. Anything over that and the mileage starts to drop precipitously. Get on the freeway, reset your AVG mileage, and report back what happens over at the OFFICIAL fuel mileage thread.

If your dealership is making YOU feel like the bad guy, don't put up with their bull and try a different dealership.

I got my steering wheel replaced under warranty, and it wasn't even at the same dealership from which I bought my car. Luckily for me, they didn't give me a single problem.

BTW.
