Default Steering column rattle or clunk

Has anyone brought their Elantra in for a light rattle/clunk in the steering column when going over bumps or sawing the wheel back and forth?

Lately I'm getting the sound inside the car. It feels like a loose bushing or something.

Don

I'll check mine in a few minutes on the way to work. I haven't heard anything, Don. But I sure will listen a bit more intently.

Don, That's a change, usually your the one giving helpful advice! So far mine is quiet, but with vehicles in the past it usually turned out to be a worn inner/outer tie rod. Good luck, sorry I can't be of more help.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing about Don! Mine hasn't rattled. I would get it checked out!

Thanks all for the replies. It's an obscure condition for sure; not even hmaservice.com has anything on it. Will post the outcome just as soon as the car develops a real problem and has to make its first trip back to the dealer.

Tried it several times before, enroute (I know-dangerous), and after arriving at work. Nada, Don.

Thanks Richard. I'll have to climb under there with my wrenches to see if there's any obvious cause/solution.

Thumbs down elantra rattling

i have the same problem. what did dealer say? answer is very important for me. i have been using the car for 1 year. i went for the technical support again and again, but they look at me like i'm nuts.

the problem makes clunking noise and it rock the steering wheel left/right and make the body rock real hard.

i think it is a problem with "drive shaft" and "steering rack and pinion".

i started to hate the car and i have already hated the dealer

if you get any feedback, please, share with me. thanks for the replies.

Not that particular problem but I do have a problem in the steering or tires, linkage not sure exactly?! When your driving down the highway about 100kms (60mph) and turn the wheel slightly either way there's a resistance it feels like a magnet or something is holding it straight, then when you turn it takes a little jerk to right or left and you actually feel it!?. I go in for my first service on Monday, so I'll tell/show them then since I tried it out just sitting at a light and same thing.? Who knows.
