Default IPOD Cable Issue?

Ok so I just got a new 2013 Elantra Limited W/O Navi.

I want to hook up my Ipod Touch but have read the manual where it says only use the Hyundai Power Cable or the Ipod may malfunction?

Does this mean I cannot buy a USB cable at lets say Walmart lol & use that with my Elantra & Ipod?

Thanks

im sure you can use just about anything, but i bought the same car (2013 limited w/out navi) and I also bought Hyundai's cable. its only $35. you can give any iPod cable a shot, its not going to ruin anything.

I had to get an auxiliary cable to use my ipod and play by playlists, artists etc. If I just the ipod cable it just plays...and I have over 7,000 songs on my classic...so yeah..it's too random for me!

So you have the same car as me, you did not get the Hyundai issued usb cable?

What one are you talking about in case I go to get one soon? thanks

Try it and see what happens,, we had fella come in with complaint that I-Pod cuts in-out or something to that affect,,, service person wrote it up as WARRANTY, tech looks at console and sees aftermarket cable, puts car back outside, documents as not warranty, customer not using white I-Pod cable.. ideally the service aisle person should have got off his but and looked in the car first.. car should have never made it out of aisle and into the shop.

I think if you use a regular white Apple cable, the car basically becomes a big speaker dock and you still have to control the music with the iDevice. If you use the Hyundai cable, you can control everything (playlist, albums, etc) through the headunit. It will also display all of the info that is being played.

I got this cable and it functions just as the rip off Hyundai cable. Displays track info on my our screen and you can control the iPod from dash or steering wheel.

Hyundai Cable or something similar like steveg78 linked = control on headunit

USB cable/ipod cable = control via itouch/songs. Cannot be controlled through headunit i.e change playlists or choose songs etc.
