Since you have such great insider access how about a Case #, PDF or any type of Official Reference for either a TSB or a Recall regarding the grinding brake issue.

Now that would be helpful.

You live in Florida and are retired. Awfully surly for such a supposedly relaxed individual, aren't we?

Either way, whether you were being serious or sarcastic, there's always room to show a little respect for each other on here. sbr711 may not be right 100% of the time (because, who is?) However, I usually respect his opinions because he is knowledgable in his field and, if you can see by his post count, has generously answered numerous questions for forum members. Thanks for that, by the way, sbr711.

I have read this entire brake noise forum and really do appreciate all of the positive input. I bought my new 2013 Elantra GLS on 9/25/12. Shortly after taking delivery I noticed the grinding that has been described here. At 379 (10/9/12) miles I took the car to my local dealer to have them look at it. They test drove it and verified the grinding noise.
Their fix was to resurface the rotors and clean up the pads. This completely quietened the brakes for about another 1000 miles when the problem came back. I have an appointment with the dealership tomorrow for another attempt at a fix. I have nearly 3600 miles on it now. I'll let you know what happens. Since the rotors have been turned once I don't want any more metal removed.
jbr711, thanks for the pad replacement information. I'll be sure and bring this information to the service writer's attention.

Hey BigBird welcome to the forum. While at the dealer you should probably ask for another set of rotors and see what they say. Essentially they were turned early due to a misdiagnosis and you will get a shorter lifespan from them as a result. I think you guys with this issue have a good shot at new rotors if you have a good service dept.

Just got back from my Hyundai dealer. The rotors and new pads have to be ordered and should be in later in the week.
I talked extensivly with the shop foreman. This is now a well known problen at Hyundai. Due to policy, the first time I took it in, they couldn't just replace the rotors and pads but had to resurface and clean up the pads. However, since that had been tried on my Elantra and the problem returned, the next fix is new rotors and pads. He took a flashlight out to my car and looked at the back of the pads and they were the wrong color. The pad kit that sbr711 mentioned is the right one. He assured me that this will correct the problem and the noise will not come back. Several others have been done in the shop with complete success. Stay tuned.

Called into my dealership where my girlfriend had bought her car which is in another city, and they had no mentions of other Elantras coming in for brakes making noises. Then I called into our closest dealership, and they also did not get any reports or Elantras coming in with the problem. I have an appointment for Saturday to go in and have them check it out, but it's unfortunate this car may be the first to report the problem at the local dealer.

Be sure to print out the technical bulletin that sbr711 posted in post #87. This gives the correct kit number for the pads that are supposed to correct the problem. Good luck.

Em thanks for throwing out the Welcome mat. I sure am glad we have this forum.
