^ dealers are dealers because they were too stupid to actually design the cars or fix real problems.

Not exactly, they are dealers because they have lots of money and are good at selling stuff. A dealer is often the best place for service and the only local source for many parts.

Emma is the latest victim of this fault at 19,950 miles. They worked fine yesterday and today I got a brief spurt and then nothing. Tank is full, pump is running but no fluid coming out. I'll dink with it later.

Okay...I either have a tank with a leak in it or my dealership is a massive liar. I took the car in on Saturday to have the door speaker replaced and on their checklist, they claimed to have filled up the washer fluid tank. Well I find that claim dubious as I stopped by a Chevron station that had an open convenience store and bought a gallon of washer fluid. Emma took the WHOLE gallon with room to spare.

That's weird, Andrew. Seems like you would notice spots of liquid in your garage if it were leaking at a standstill.

Agreed.

I was house/car-sitting for a friend a year or so ago and would drive her Ford Explorer twice a month just to keep the battery from going dead in between her trips back to Portland. After never being able to get the rear washer to work, I took the car to my house and set about diagnosing it with the engine off. As soon as I flipped the rear wiper switch to 'WASH', the pump started running and a second later I heard the pattering of liquid hitting the garage floor. After popping the hood, I isolated where the tubing had popped apart just aft of the fluid reservoir, put it back together and it's worked fine ever since.

Would you be terribly offended if I selected Option "B?" You, Andre, I have confidence in. The dealer? Not so much!

That reminds of my experience with my dealership , I took the car in last Monday for service , and same ,on their check list the claimed to have filled up the windshield washer fluid , as usual in every service they charge me but never ,actualy ,now even once they've done it ,and I purposely leave it nearly empty to find it afterwards ... well empty

Once this gallon is gone, I'll flush the reservoir with clean water and reinstate my old standby, the Volkswagen washer fluid concentrate. Stuff smells awesome, has little-to-no dye in it and you can dilute it with water so you only have to buy a liter. I use distilled water so there's no risk of hard-water spotting in the summer.

Interesting thread.

I too have a window washer issue on a brand new Elantra, but a different issue. Mine works fine, but whatever they put in the bottle at the dealership leaves a nasty hazy film on my window. I told the dealer not to touch my washer during my first oil change. I plan to put just water in it until that stuff is diluted enough not to make a mess of the window. (Don' have to worry much about freezing water, here in Arizona)
