Default Better satellite radio (XM) options

I just got my 2011 Elantra yesterday.
One of the first things I did was cancel the Sirius subscription I had on the radio from my old car. It was a Starmate Replay. I activated XM on the Elantra radio and within 30 mins had regretted it. The Starmate radio I had in my other car had significantly more options than the in-car radio does. I could store 30 presets, pause/rewind live music, set artist/song alerts, game alerts, etc.
All I see you can do on the Elantra radio is store 6 presets and thats it.

So now I am already thinking of canceling XM and finding somewhere to install the Starmate radio in the Elantra just so I could get the functionality of it.

For anyone else who has already been down this road, are there any words of wisdom? Any good places to mount the radio, or am I completely missing the X button for the radio that will turn these other XM options on?

For mounting, the place that makes the most sense is to the right of the steering wheel, right under the vent. I could probably rig up a mount somehow and put a brace in between where the two plastic pieces of the dash come together.

You can store 18 presets in the radio, not six so before you hack up your dash, look at the top of the screen and you'll see it says 'XM1, XM2, or XM3'. Push the XM button to cycle between the bands and you'll be able to program six separate channels per band.

Thanks. The artist/song alert and the rewind function is still worth its weight in gold. I am going to head out to the garage and see what kind of hacking I can do.

Just keep in mind that such a function may involve a small hard drive that the factory radio does not have. Either way, good luck.

The Starmate replay does it through memory built into the small radio receiver.

I had a Sirius Sportster 5 that I used in my old car, which I could also use in a boombox which was pretty cool.

I've decided i'm willing to sacrifice those things and just live with what came with the car, to keep it clean and uncluttered.

In reality, the 18 presets are about all I really need and flipping through them from the steering wheel is really what has my sticking with it.

Good Luck

I like the clean uncluttered look to, but having the ability to pause/rewind music and then get an alert every time certain artists or songs are playing on any of the channels, that is just about worth it to me to install the unit.

I will post pictures once I figure out how I am going to do it.

A little off topic but I just cancelled my XM subscription and then they negotiated an almost 50% decrease if I would take it for another 6 months. So now up here we are paying pretty much what many USA customers are getting it for = $6.00/month. More reasonable.

For the last 3 years when it comes time to renew, I call them to cancel, they offer it to me for half-price if I keep my subscription, and I tell them yes. I am not sure what they would offer if I told them no to their first offer. 75% off maybe?

Default XM come ons

After I let my 90d trial expire, they have been pestering me with offers mostly 1/2 half off. Finally the other day a guy told me he would go Rock Bottom to 24.95/5 months but then he mumbled something that sounded a lot like plustaxtitlelicenseanddestinationcharges. I said, send it to me in writing. Of course I am still waiting at the Mail box in my Boxers!!!
