Auto door locks

Do I really need to go to the dealer to have them change the settings for when my doors auto lock? I'm sure someone figured out where these settings are hidden? Anyone? My dealer is an hour drive away. I just don't feel like wasting 2 hours in the car.

Unfortunately they are a dealer-programmable item only. I wanted mine changed and since I knew how I wanted it set, my buddy brought me back into the shop, handed me the computer and said, "You do it." If you can wait, just hold out until you need to take it in for something, that way you only have to go once.

You mean no one figured out a way to do it? There has got to be someone that works in a shop that can post here on how to do it. I can do it on my BMW I had.

Nope. There is only one way and you have to plug in the OBDII port and set it up via Hyundai's tech software, GDS (I think) which takes you to (drumroll) the dealer. Our resident master tech, sbr711 should be able to back me up on this one. Your BMW was a BMW...this is a Hyundai, they are two totally different animals.

I'm sorry but I know it's not what you wanted to hear but this is what you get when the average car buyer wants less and less to do with how their cars operate; they take away the DIY from the 5% that is interested in tinkering themselves. You can try finding a way if you want but it's a fruitless endeavor.

This is not one of those insert-the-key-and-hit-the-light-switch-three-times kind of programming secrets. It requires a handheld device that only Hyundai dealers carry.

It bugs me too. My last Nissan had all sorts of programmable options. I've always found it strange that Hyundai runs one of coolest online DIY resources of any carmaker (www.hmaservice.com), and yet doesn't see fit to let us program our own door locks.

Isn't it nice when the manufacturers think they know what everyone wants then makes it "impossible" for you to modify.
Then they charge you $25K+ for their decisions.
What would it take to make this a user selectable item integrated into all the other various Radio/GPS/Bluetooth/etc. settings?

This is another reason I absolutely despise any auto climate control system........You spend more time fiddling trying to circumvent something the designers felt you needed or wanted.
I suppose there will be a point I can't purchase a vehicle that is manual control any longer but until then I won't buy any vehicle with auto-climate control.
That's why I purchase the Tucson GLS instead of the Limited.........luckily the Elantra Limited didn't have it.

Probably very little... mostly just software changes I'm sure.

The problem is Hyundai's own success. When you're struggling to build cars fast enough for the general population, there isn't much of a business case for making technical changes that appeal only to car geeks. When was the last time Consumer Reports or any other mainstream authority gave any attention to user-programmable features?

Well maybe it's about time to do a consumer report on Consumer Reports?

Wonder what would happen if a car was designed based on all the various opinions and feedback from a forum like this.
The car probably would never be built..........we be stuck in a debate on whether to include a spare tire or not.
