Really nice of you to take care of your grand-maman

Realized that I had forgotten about a meeting. Ended up pushing Blanca a bit hard for the first time ever, and boy did she go! We did a 15 minute drive in about ... Well lets not talk about it. It wasn't as buttoned down as my tC but I was plenty pleased. I think I shall detail her tomorrow to reward her for her performance.

I got started on the process of restoring a vintage traffic signal that I bought earlier this year and things are kind of on a slippery slope. What started out as a simple re-wiring has evolved into a complete restoration. I've already found somebody to redo the cloth-insulated wiring and clean the bulb sockets, I've ordered some fiberglass rope to replace the completely perished original cork door gaskets and a fellow signal enthusiast can hopefully locate some lens gaskets that are pliable rubber. Mine are so old and brittle they're like plastic; any handling causes them to snap and crack so I doubt they'd survive being removed and installed again.

Once the signal is taken apart, rusted and frozen screws are freed and everything is cleaned up, it will be professionally powder-coated in its original dark green color and then placed on indoor display. This is a several-week project but as it's my first proper signal restoration, I'm seriously looking forward to it.

Here she is back in April after the ride home:

In okay shape overall and definitely a charming patina but I'm too much of a perfectionist for this:

I never realized just how large these things were until I saw an authentic one sitting in the garage of my son's neighbor. They seem to shrink, hanging high above an intersection. But standing next to one? WOW! Impressive. As is the brightness from the bulbs.

We are hosting Thanksgiving at our house this year. It's going to be my grandparents, parents, one of my uncles, my pseudo-uncle, my brother and his wife, sister, husband and I.

We have been doing many preparations. Last night I spent hours transforming a large Cinderella pumpkin into puree for pies, and today sewed a dozen place mats and napkins, as well as doing some more shopping.

Been there, done that! I remember many a time being on the verge of late to work, and pushing my Elantra to the edge. Poor thing, lol. Anyhow, one big thing that has changed, though, with my new job and Leaf, is I leave earlier for work now because the route I take is very unpredictable. I find I am more relaxed when I get there, too.

Freezing rain out there right now. Could be a dicey ride home from work today. Think I'll stay a little late and let the rush hour people fight it out before I leave.

After 26 days of waiting for my insurance check. I should have wheels for Thursday or Friday.

What a terrible experience this has been. 3 days to get a response, 3-5 for estimate, 5 days with no wheels then 14 days they cancelled my rental. 4 days of BS about money to come back. And now the guy calls me to know why after 23 days no one came to get the junker.

20 years of driving ... All the traffic and bull we go through and the last 26 days have been the worst.

Cant wait to drive my Elantra! Hope I can open the moonroof before spring. And wash and shine my car.

:-)

I can 10000% agree. I had a brand new car stolen back in September and insurance treated me like I had everything to do with it! It's almost like they drag their feet just to test your patience. Glad it's all over! Can't wait to see your Elantra!
