Default USB connection + Android Question

Hello everyone! Is there a way to have the stereo's USB connection look at the SD card that you can add to most Android phones? My Atrix will connect to the stereo and recognize the few folders of music on the built-in memory, but it doesn't seem to see the external SD card.

Thanks!

Do you have the usb mode set to mass storage on your phone?

Regardless, I have not had success using usb with my Droid X in the Elantra. It does work well connecting via Bluetooth, just make sure to enable streaming in the Bluetooth settings on the Elantra.

I do indeed! It doesn't always connect the first time through USB; sometimes it gives me an error, but the majority of the time it does connect. It's frustrating having 32gb of music on your phone and to not have it see it. There's gotta be a way! Bluetooth works here too, but it's not as user friendly as you can't control it with the controls on the wheel.

Thanks for the reply! How do you do this in the Android OS?

Its just like plugging phone into computer to transfer files and pics. Plug in phone via usb look for the usb icon in the top left corner that indicated usb is connected. On my phone I drag down the icon and click turn on usb storage.

Yeah, I had it on USB Storage, and it still wouldn't see the external SD card. I ended up going to Fry's and buying a 32gb USB thumbstick, which allows me to use the wheel controls and see the song names.

Always seems hit and miss when connecting with my Android phone. I thought it was just my Galaxy S Captivate being flaky but good to know it's not.

When trying to be cool I just use bluetooth audio since it's quickest/easiest and everyone in the car can use the phone to pick music but when driving alone I plug in via USB (find the bass is much stronger via USB VS bluetooth).

The audio and volume is much better wired in, in my limited experience (bluetooth streaming is a touch quiet, while wired up I'm afraid I'll go deaf). That said, there is definitely something nice about just being able to get into the car, start up, and stream and go. Definitely a good idea for multi-passenger trips . The USB stick loaded up with music is definitely the easiest way to go. Cheap too

My Moto Defy is also a touch picky about connecting, but I attribute that more to the phone/OS than anything on the car. Android gets modded and tweaked by the hardware manufacturers prior to release, so you can end up with a hodgepodge of incremental difference from 'driod to 'driod.

My wired in iPod nano 4th gen will surely leave me deaf in a couple years
