I have a USB drive full of MP3s that I listen to as I drive, and the ID3 tags don't work completely with some songs for some reason I can't figure out. At least ONE field will show up for any given song. For example, the Album field might work, but the Title and Artist don't, so all I see is "No Title" or "No Artist". I have checked and rechecked the files that have this problem, and the tags are there in both ID3v1 and ID3v2.

Has anyone else experienced this issue and solved it?

This is one of several annoyances I've encountered with the interface for MP3 playback...

Hmm, no, can't say that I've seen or experienced that problem before. What program are you using to check the ID3 tags? I have been using Tag & Rename for years and it works great for me. My biggest gripe with the factory system when playing MP3s is that if you turn file info ON when it's playing a song and then skip to another track the file info turns off and you have to turn it back on manually again. This also happens when you turn the stereo off/turn the car off and re-start. Have to hit that darn FILE INFO ON thingy again. Pretty annoying actually and could easily be fixed with a firmware upgrade but I doubt that will ever happen.

I would say as a test you could post one of the MP3s that you are having an issue with and then one of us could just drop it on a USB flash drive and see if it does the same thing on our stereo too. I think there is a 16MB maximum file size limit for adding an attachment to a post here on this forum so unless it's a very long song encoded at a very high bit rate you could just attach it to a reply.

My xm subscription just expired so I have only been using the mp3 player for about a day, so far no issues noticed with the first 3 albums I used.

Quantech has a good idea, you can upload to a site like mediafire and others can try it. Of course we will delete after testing, no music piracy and whatnot

It won't let me upload an mp3... Or a zipped mp3... Or an mp3 with the file extension changed...

I looked at the tags using WinAmp, by the way, just to verify that they were there. I also wrote a perl script to copy the ID3v2 info into ID3v1 just in case the car's firmware wasn't intelligent enough to look at the v2 tags...

Quantech, I don't have any problem with the file info showing up when I turn on the car or anything like that. That's kind of odd... Maybe we're not comparing apples to apples. I don't have the Nav system. Do you?

I wish I knew how to hack the firmware... There are definitely some things I would change.

Sorry, didn't see the suggestion of mediafire. Here's the url: http://www.mediafire.com/?3lnjl8vdiw46nhn

I checked out your MP3 in Tag & Rename and it looks fine to me. I haven't had the chance to put it on a USB stick yet to try it in the car, but will report back on that in the next day or so. I can't imagine that it wouldn't display correctly on my system but who knows. If it does then there's definitely something awry with factory stereo.

I do have the "Premium" system with Nav so our interfaces are a little different. On my display there is a soft touch button on the screen called "Info On" that displays the Song title/Album/Artist. If this is turned off it just shows the file name in a basic format. The firmware should have been coded so that the File Info is defaulted to always on and it's not. It has to be turned on manually and it's a bit annoying. Probably no one else here on this board with the Nav system noticed it or even cares but I just threw in my 2 cents since I had responded to your post earlier.

If someone else here gets a chance who has a non-nav stereo to try your MP3 and can report back that could be of some help too I suppose. Maybe a few people with nav and non-nav Elantras can give it a try and report back and see what the results are.

I have a USB stick in my Elantra (no-nav), and I have noticed that some of my mp3's do not show MP3 info as well. Most do, while others show No Artist Name or something to that effect. I haven't had a chance to ensure my tags are correct so I was going to do that first. I chime back in with what I find out.

OK, had a few minutes and my car is right here so I put your MP3 on a USB stick and gave it a whirl. Displayed all the ID3 tag information just fine for me.

I attached a couple of pictures as proof and also to show you what I meant by the Info On/Info Off soft touch button on my display.

The first pic is with Info Off which is what the stereo defaults to. As you can see it just shows basic file information.

Second pic is with Info On, showing Artist/Album/Song Title. I wish the stereo would have this as the default but it doesn't. Could be easily fixed within the firmware too I am sure. I know that this is not a bug with mine since every new Elantra I've tested all do this. It's just coded that way in the factory firmware...why, I have no idea.

Anyway, getting back to your topic, as you can see your MP3 displays the info just fine on my stereo. I guess yours has a bug or glitch or needs a firmware update. I suppose you could bring it up at the dealership but they might look at you like you're crazy. Not that you aren't in the right with your gripe but it's something that I would bet they will consider so minor as to not even want to deal with it or even know how to deal with it since it's not really mechanical or electrical but part of the stereo's head unit. I think the only thing they could possibly do is offer to replace the factory head unit with another one.

Let's see if anyone else with a non-nav system can give your MP3 a try and see what they report back. But IMHO your ID3 tags are good and there's nothing wrong with that file.

I was able to correct my MP3's that weren't properly displaying. My tags were bad somehow. I redid them and they all work.

However, I loaded the MP3 that synath posted, and in my no-nav setup it shows the Artist name, but no Title or Album information. From what I can tell the tags are there, so I don't know why it's not reading it. I'll do some tinkering with it tomorrow to see if I can find out why this is happening.
