Hey guys,
I have just signed the papers for a 2011 elantra limited and DECLINED the extended warrenty. current warrenty is 5yr/100,000km which is good as it is. do you guys think it is worth the $1000.00 for 7yr full warranty? i've always been a honda person and have declined all extended warranty...but something is telling me to go back and add the exteded warranty this new vechicle. any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks |

i just signed for a new accent today and declined the extended warranty also. the warranty will be cheaper just before your factorywarranty runs out. i did this on my dodge megacab recently and you will save a lot of money. besides if you sell, trade in or total the car before the extended warranty runs out you will not have to fight to get your $$ back.

I didn't. I seem to recall reading that warrenties are geared more toward women. Guys probably have the mind set of "if it breaks I'll fix it".
The way I look at it is this. Its insurance. The company is in it to make money. Odds are you won't need it. If more cars needed the extra coverage because of failures, then that means more out of pocket for the company, and that means less or no profit. If the odds are the company won't have to fix anything, then more profit is to be made. |

Nope in years 6 and 7 it will be very unlikely that repairs will cost more than 1K to replace if you are handy with a wrench. I can handle an alternator, thermostat, motor mounts, hoses etc.. and the warranty probably wont cover belts, plugs, rotors, and other things I will have to replace anyway.
All of the expensive stuff is covered longer anyway, engine, transmission are 10 years and the cat, ecm and obd2 are 8. |

I also declined the extended warranty.
For your concerns about it being a new car. Sure there might be issues but that happens with just about any vehicle built nowdays. Also, my experience with Hyundai and the local dealer has been great. Took it in for a oil/filter change and while they were at it, they did a vehicle inspection, checked for tsbs and flash updates.

I used to sell extended warranties in the car business. I never buy them, for the simple reason that they cost money in the long run and I can afford the risk of not having the coverage.
Not everybody is in this boat, however. If one cannot afford the risk - if a blown transmission out of warranty would cause financial disaster - then they should build an extended factory warranty (I don't trust third-party plans) into the purchase price of the vehicle and consider it part of the long-term cost of ownership. |

I did not and NEVER WILL AGAIN. I had purchased on my other car (traded in 2009 Elantra Touring) and got back $385.00 out of $1000 because I had 35,000 miles on the car. My son purchased on an used vehicle and it did WORK FOR HIM.

No, I don't feel an extended warranty is worth it. I had one once and it never paid for itself. One of the reasons I went with Hyundai was that they come with a great factory warranty. The Fords I've had only cover bumper to bumper for 3 yr/36,000 mile.
